slightly modified to suit the

TIME, PLAGE AND OCCASION

Tho shades of night were falling fast, As tbmugh ft Western City passed A youth, who bore, 'mid snow nnd ice, 'A banner with this strange devieo:

"GOOD NEWS!"

The news was that L. A. FOOTE .t CO. just received a large lot of New Goods, making their stock fuller and more complete than it htd ever been, and the best, stock in their lino ever in the city of Crawfordsvilie.

He'passed where hangs the si^n o'er head '•I\o further go," young man sail,, '•You'll find no better far or wide"— And loud thai saxe-horn voico replied:

"GOOD NEWS!"

For the information of tho public, wa would av that the sign referred to i3 that of the "CORNKI! BOOK STOUK," (y-iu can sec it from cither Green or Vernon streets,) and the young man who popped the traveler was John R. Robinson, Jr., who hn« been in tho establishment a year, .ind being well posted in the business, knew what ho was. talking about when ho told the gentleman v.-itli the banner to stop. If you doubt, call and ask him. ?•.•••

And now he niands within the door, ••.•.Where (roods are found from wail to Goor -And with smile and wink of eye, lfo says in accents clear and high,

"I SEE NEW GOODS!''

He saw Bibles, Testaments, Prayer Books nnd Hymn Books for ail denominations, Albums, Histories, Novels, Books, a gr'.'at stock of miscellaneous Books, all the School Hooks »n use in common School'', College Text Books, Blank an Memorandum Books, Pictures, all sorts, kind and sizes, Picture Frames. Moldings, Paper of everv size and kin 1, Wail and Window Paper, Window Shades, Cords. Tassels, Envelopes, S!at ^, Pencils, Ink, Pens. Toys in great varieiy, and Notions of all kinds. In fact, if 3'ou were to ask him he would not be able to enumerate tha half thai he did see. Nor did he forget to inquire tho prices, which, being lower, than he had antieioated, and finding many things ha wanted ho bought quite a largo quantity, which led to the following results:

At break-of day, towards the brook, His way a thirsty" farmer look Ilo heard a voice of wild despair King clearly through the morning air—

"NEW GOODS!-'

1 he farmer was astonished f^r he could see no one. and so he brought out his dogs for a hunt, and had the mystery explained as follows

A traveler, by the faithful hound, All buried in New Goods was found Still in his hands, as in a vice, The banner with that strr.uge djvico:

"GOOD NEWS!"

The fact is that, he had got too many articles for his money and ivas not able to '"cote" thoin borne, and so got into the abovo unfortunate predicament.

I fear tho youth who bravely bora -••"The Excelsior Hag in days of yore, The '•Corner Book Storr:" had not found

Or he might now be singing round—

"GOOD NEWS!"

The reason we have for that belief is, that if he had found the "Corner" he would have bought so many entertaining Books that he would never have undertaken that jjurney, but have stayed at home and mado a quiet citizen.

Our hero lives, and lives this day, If you'd like to know I'll tell you tho way Ilis mind was lull and his heart was warm, And lie was only singing amid tho storm,

"GOOD NEWS!"

He was rescued from his perilous condition, went on his way rejoicing and gladdened his family and friends with ft bountiful supply of Books, Stationery, Toys, Notions, Ac., which ho had bought at tht place where you get cheap goods and the right change back.

And now with goods rn his arms and bind !, Goods on his back, in goods ho stands— And costing but a very few fipsTho well known sound comes from iiis lips,

5

"GOOD NEWS!"'

It may be said that tho yonth above mentioned was' employed to blow for FOOTE CO., but you can be convinced of your mistake if you will call and see the best assorted and most complete stock of goods in our line ever brought to the city, and at prices to suit tho timos.

The youth forgot to say that we keep a QEXERAT. NEWS DKPOT, whore you can find a full suppiy of MAGAZINES and LITSRAEY PAPERS.

Also have for sale tho B7'co.'. Gibha Sewiitij Machine," which we invite you to call and see. Any goods not on hands promptly ordered.

Thankful for past favors wo would respectfully ask you ALL to call. mar 22'Cti.J A. FOOTE & CO.
