TO Tim Pl/lSIs sc.
AVING failed to sell my property, as desired, I again present myself at the old business of PUMP MAKING, at the old stand on Washington street, Crawfordsville, and respectfully solicit a liberal share of the public patronage.
I havo on hand a largo lot of tho best Poplar Lumber for top stocks, tho suck of which is completely surrounded by tho most approved and durable timber, namely, hickory or iron wood and am using invariably what the farmers term Bail Box. With an experience of 20 years, I know, aud the farmers generally know, that tho old style heavy Pump is superior to all others. All who have tried it must also agree that a Pump made so that the suck can bo removed, if need be, without taking from the well the entire pump, is preferable. Others may gas and blow as they may, this community know by sad experience, that the little delicate Pump sold through tho country by peddlers won't pay.
My Pumps are of too great weight to be sold in this way and we respectfully ask those in want of something substantial to call at Our shop. We will be pleased to accommodate you with anything in our line and on the most favorablo terms. When you buy Pumps of me, you know where to go when you need repairs made or where you get the use of the proper tools to wnko your own repairs, free of charge.

HAVE YOU READ
THIS STORY
slightly modified to suit tho
TIME, PLACE AND OCCASION I
The shades of night were falling fast, As through a Western City passed A youth, who bore, 'mid snow and ice, A bannsr with this strange device:
"GOOD NEWS!"
The news was that
IJ.
A. FOOTE & CO. had
just received a large lot of New Good3, making their stock fuller and moro complete than it had ever boen, and tho host stock in thoir lino ever in tho city of Crawfordsville.
He'passcd wherehang3 tho sign o'or head '•No farther go," a young man said, "You'll find no better far or wide"— And loud that saxe-horn voice replied
•:CiOOD NEWS!"
For the information of tho public, wo would say that tho sign referred to is that of the "CORNEK BOOK ST»RK," (you can see it from either Green or Vernon streets,) and the young man who stopped the travolcr was John R. Robinson, Jr.. who has been in the establishment a year, and boing well posted in the business, knew what hfr was talking about when he told tho gentleman with the banner to stop. If^you doubt, call and ask him.
And now ho stands within tho door, Where goods are found from wall to floor And with a smile and wink of eye, He says in accents clear and high,
'•I SEE NEW GOODS^,r
He sew Bibles, Testaments, Prayer Books and Hymn Books for all denominations, Albums, llistorios, Novels, Music Books, a great stock of miscellaneous Books, all tho School Books in use in common Schools, College Text Books, Blank and Memorandum Books Pictures, all sorts, kind anil sizes, Picture Frames, Moldings, Paper of every size and kind, Wall and Window Paper, Window Shade?, C'orda, Tassels, Envelopes, Slates, Pencils, Ink, Pens, Toys in great variety, and Notions of all kinds. In fact, if you were to ask him he would not be able to enumerate the half that he did see. Nor did ho forget to inquiro tho prices, which, being lower ihan he had anticipated, and finding many things he wanted he bought quite a large quantity, which ltd to tho following-'-results:
At break of day, towards tho brook, His way a thirsty farmer took He heard r. voice of wild despair Ring clearly through the morning air—
"NEW GOODS!"
Tho farmer was astonished for he could seo no one, aud so he brought out his dogs for a hunt, and had tho mystery oxplained as follows
A traveler, by tho faithful hound, All buried in New Goods was found Still in his hands, as in a vice, Tho banner with that strange device
"GOOD NEWS!"
Tho fact is that he had got too many articles for his money and was not ablo to "tote" thetn home, and so got into the abovo unfortunate predicament.
I fear the youth who bravely bore The P'xcelsior flag in days of yore, Tho "C'ornei- Book Store" had not found Or he might now bo singing round—
"GOOD NEWS!"
The reason wo have for that belief i3, that if he had found the "Corner" he would have bought so many entertaining Books that ho would never have undertaken that journey, but havo stayed at homo and made a quiet citizen.
Our hero lives, and lives this day, If you'd like to know I'll tell you tho way His mind was lull and his heart was warm, And he was only singing amid the storm,
"GOOD NEWS!"
He was roscued from hi3 perilous condition, went on his way rejoicing and gladdened his family and friends with a bountiful supply of Books, Stationery, Toys, Notions, &o., which he had bought at the place where you got cheap goods and the right chango back.
And now with goods in his arms and hand*, Goods on his back, in goods ho stands— Aud costing but a very few Bps— The well known sound comes from his lips,
"GOOD NEWS!"
It may bo said that tho youth abovo mentioned was employed to blow for FOOTE fe CO., but you can be convinced of your mistake if you will call and seo the best assorted and most oompleto stock of goods in our lino over brought to tho oity, and at prices to suit tho times.
The youth forgot to say that wo keep a
GHNKR-
AL NEWS DEPOT, where you can find a full supply of MAGAZINES and LITERARY PAPERS. Also havo for sale the Wilcox & Gibbs Setcing Machine," which wo invito you to call and soe.
Auy goods not on hands promptly orderod. Thankful for past favors wo would respectfully ask vou ALL to call. inar22'66.] L. A. FOOTE & CO.
