Several of the above named gentlemen, nominees of a Democratic Convention, will bo rccognizcd by the reading public as most virulent traitors. Capt. liichard ilawes was inaugurated Governor of Kentucky by Jlragg's army during its invasion of that Stato in 1S63, From tho commencement of tho war ho has been an avowed secessionist—ran off from his homo in Paris and joined tho rebel army soon after tho Fort Sumter affair, and served as a Quartermaster till We surrender. Mat. Turney was a

notorious guerrilla. Those arc tho men .nominated by a convention of

Democrats, tho same Domocrats who held a convention at Louisville on the first of May, which was addressed by .Bayless llanna of this iStalo. Thero wei'o plenty of men in Bourbon county who had served in tho Union army, but I hey aro thrust aside and rebel soldiers and notorious rebel guerrillas nominated in their stead. Surely comment is unncccssry. Truly, the day is not distant when "loyalty will create a stench in the no&trils of tho people,'' if the Democratic party should succeed in filling all the offices in the country with returned rebel soldiers.

A Queer Position.

The Copperhead papers contond that the Southern States were never out of the Union, that tho minute the war ceased they were entitled to representation in Congress by such men as they might chooso to send there, if fairly elected, &c. In short, they claim that when the war was over, tho Southern rebellions States were entitled to all the rights exercised by tho loj'al States. And yet they indorse Mr. Johnson's reconstruction policy, under which he appoints Governors for sovereign States, calls conventions and dictates to paid conventions what

must abolish slavery must declare that their ordinances of secession were always null and void—must repudiate tho rebel debt by a Constitutional amendment, &c. If the rebel States were entitled to all the rights of other jStatcs, how enivie President Johnson
