A SVI'ERIOK RLMKHY.—We can conscientiously recommend to thoso suffering from a distressing cough, Dr. Strickland's Meilifiuous Cough Bal-i-am. It gives relief almost instantaneous, and is withal net disagreeable, to the taste. There is
110 doubt but the Mellifluous Cough Balsam is one of the best preparations in use, and is all that its proprietor claims for it. We have tried it during the past week, and found relief from a most disressing cough. It is prepared by Dr. Strieklaud, No. 1159 Sycamore street, Cincinnati, O., and for salo by Druggists.

THIS STORY

TIME, PLACE AND OCCASION!
The shades of night were fulling fast,
As through a Western City passed
A youth, who bore, 'mid snow and ice,
A banner with this strange device: Aj-
"GOOD NEWS!"
The news was that L. A. TOOTID & CO. had just received large lot of New Goods, making their stock fuller nnd more complete than it. had ever been, and the best stock in their lino ever in t.he city of Crawfordaville.
He passed where hangs the .sign 0 er head
"No farther go,'' a young man said,
"You'll find no belter far or wide
And loud that saxe-horn voice replied:
"GOOD NEWS!''
For the information of the public, we would say that the sign referred to is that of tho "CUKNI:tt BOOK STORK," (you can see it from either tireen or Vernon streets,) nnd the young man who stopped tho traveler was John R. Robinson, Jr., who has been in tho establishment a yoar, and being well posted in the business, knew what he w«s talking about when ho told the gentleman with the banner to etnp. If you doubt, call and ask him.
And now he stands within the door,
Where goods are found from wall to floor
And with a smilo and wink of eye,
lie snvs in accents clear and high,
"I SEE NEW GOODS
lie saw Bibks, Testaments, Prayer Books and Hymn Books for all denominations, Albums, Histories, Novels, Music Books, a great stock of miscellaneous Books, all the He.hool Books in use in common Schools, College Test Books, Blank and Memorandum Books, Pictures, all sorts, kind and sizes, Picture Frames, Moldings, Paper of every si/,e and kin I, Wall and Window Paper, "Window Shades, Cords, Tassels, Envelopes, Slates, Pen-
Ink, Pens, Toys in great variety, and Notions of all kinds. In fact, if you were to ask him he would not be able to enumerate the half that.he did see. Nor did ho forget to inquire the prices, which, being lower than he had anticipated, and finding many things he wanted he bought quite a liit'ge quantity, which led to the following
At break of day, towards tho brook,
His way a thirsty farmer took
He heard a voice of wild despair
Ring clearly through the morning air—
'OUCW GOODS!"
The farmer was astonished for he could seo no one, and*o he brought out his do^s for a, hunt, and had the mystery explained a3 follows:'
A traveler, by the faithful hound,
All buried in New Goods was found
Still in his hands, as in a vice, The banner with that strange device
'•GOOD NEWS!"
The fact is that he had ro{, too many articles for his money and was not able to "tote" them home, and so got into the abovo unfortunate predicament.
4
I fear the youth who bravely bore
The Excelsior flag in days of yore,
The "Comer Book Store" had not. found
Or he might now be singing round—
"GOOD NEWS!"
The reason wc have for that belief is, that if he had found tho "Corner" he would have bought so many entertaining Books that he would never have undertaken that journey, but have stayed at home and made a quiet citizen.
Our hero lives, and lives this day, „w»st
If you'd like to know I'll tell you the way
His mind was luli and his iieart was warm,
And he was 011 ly singing amid the storm,
"GOOD NEWS!"
lie was resetted from his perilous condition, went on his way rejoicing and gladdened his family and friends with a bountiful supply of Hooks, Stationery, Toys, Notions, itc., which he had

And now with goods in his arms and hands,

MEDICAL,
DR. JOHN BULL'S COMPOUND CEDRON BITTERS!
TEic Latest and Most Important Discovery of tbe nineteenth Century
No man's name is more intimately connected with the history of Materia Medica of the United States, or more favorably known as a pioneer in medical discovery, than that of
Joliu Bull, of Louisville, Ky.
His inimitable preparation of Sarsaparilla ha* long stood at the head of the various compounds of that valuable drug.
HIS COMPOUND OF WILD CHERRY
Has becornc a household word throughout tho west and south.
His "Worm Lozenges
In less than a year after their introduction attained a reputation as wide-sproad as tho contiucutof North America.
But the crowning glory of his life remains to b« attained in his late discovery, or rather combination, for he does not claim to have been tho discoverer of
OMT:
Which is the basis of the bitters now offered to the public. That honor belongs to tho native inhabitants of Central america, to whom its virtueshave been known for more than two hundred years. Armed with it the Indian bids defiance to ths most deadly malaria, and handles, without fear, the most venomous serpent. It is a belief with them, that while there is breath left in the body, the C'edron is potent to cure, no matter what tho disease may be.
While Dr. Bull is not prc-yarcd to endorse thin extravagant pretension, hois, nevertheless, satistied from a thorough examination of theovidenco relating to its virtues, that as a remedy and preventive for all diseases arising from exposure, either to changes of weathor and climate, or to th« miasmatic influences, it stands
WITHOUT A RIVAL I
And justly deserves the reputation it has so long enjoyed iu Central America and the V/ eatern State?.
IIST UYSfJUPSIA.
And all its attendant train of symptoms, it act* more like a charm than a medicine. There is nothing in tho whole range of Materia Medica that can for a moment bear a comparison with it in this disease.
A full account of this wonderful plant may be found in the 11th edition of tho U. S. Dispensato ry, pages 1387 and 1388.
A series of experiments in which Dr. Bull baa been for years engaged, has just been brought to a successful termination, and he is now enabled to offer to the public a combination of CEDRON" with other approved tonics tho whole preserved in ti[e best quality of copper distilled Bourbon whisky, which he is confident has no equal in tho world.
He might furnish a volume of certi5catos, but tlirt public h: long since learned to estimate such tilings at their truo value. Tiie safest plan is, for every one to test for himseif the virtues of a new medicine.
