HAVE YOU READ
THIS: STORY
slightly modified to suit the
TIME, PLAGE AND OCCASION!
Tho shades of night wcro falling fast,
As through a Western City passed A youth, who bore, 'mid snow and ice, A banner with this strange device:
"GOOD NEWS!"
The new? was that L. A. FOOTE it CO. had just received a large lot of New Goods, making their .stock fuller and more complete than it had ever been, and the best, stock in their line ever in tho city of Crawfordsville.
lie passed where hangs the sign o'er head "No farther go," a young man said, "You'll find nn better far or wide"— And loud that saxe-horn voice replied:
"GOOD NEWS
For tho information of the public, we would say that the sign referred to is that of tho "COK-
NKK
BOOK STOHK," (you can seo it from cither Green or Vernon streets,) and the voting man who stopped the traveler was John R. Robinson, Jr., who has been in the establishment a year, ami being well posted in the business, knew what he was talking about when he told the gentleman with tho banner to stop. If you doubt, call and ask him.
And now he stands within the door, Where goods arc found from wall to floor And with a smile ani wink of eye, lie says in accents clear and high,
'•I SEE NEW GOODS!'"
Ho saw Bibles, Testaments, Prayer Books and Hymn Books for ail denominations, Alburns, Histories, Novels, Music Books, a great stock of miscellaneous Books, all the School Books in use in common Schools, College Text Books, Blank and Memorandum Books, Pictures, all sorts, kind and sizes. Picture Frames, Moldings, Paper of every size and kin:!, Wall and Window Puper, Window Shades, Cords, Tassels, Envelopes, Slates, Pencils, Ink, Pens, Toys in great variety, and Nolions of all kinds. In fact, if you were to ask him he would not be able to enumerate the half that he did see. Nor did he forget to inquire tho prices, which, being lower than he had anticipated, and finding many things he wanted he bought quite a large quantity, which led to the following results
1 At break of day, t.'virds the brook, His way a thirsty farmer took He heard a voice of wild despair
OF
Ring clearly through the morning air—
"NEW GOODS!"
The farmer was astonished he could sec no one. and so he brought out his do for a hunt, &nd had the mystery explained as follows:
A traveler, by the faithful hound, All buried in New Goods was found: Still in his hands, as in a vice, The banner with that strange device
"GOOD NEWS!"
The fact is that, he had got too many articles for his money and was not able to "toto" them home, and so got into the above unfortunate predicament.
I fear the youth who bravely boro The Excelsior llag in days of yore,
The "Corner Book Store" had not fouud Or he might now be singing round—
'•GOOD NEWS!"
The reason wo have for that belief is, (ant if he had found the Corn*r" he would have bought so many entertaining Books that he would never have undertaken that journey, 'out have stayed at home and made a quiet citizen.
Or,- hero lives, and lives this day, If you'd like to know I'll tell you tho way Ilis mind was lull and his heart was warm, Ai:d he was only singing amid the storm,
"GOOD NEWS!"
Ho was rescued from his perilous condition, went on his way rejoicing and gladdened his family and friends with a bountiful supply of Books, Stationery, Toys, Notions, Ac., which ho had bought at the jjjace where you got cheap goods and the right chango back.
And now with goods in his arms and hands, Goods on his back, in goods ho stands— And costing but a very few tips—
The well known sound couics from his lips,
"GOOD NEWS!"
It may be said that the youth abovo mentioned was employed to blow for FOOTE & CO., but you can bo convinced of your inistako if you will call and seo the best assorted and most complete stock of goods in our line ever brought to tho city, and at prices to suit tho times.
The youth forgot to sa}' that we keep a GENKK-
NEWS DEPOT, where you can find a full supply of MAGAZINES and LITKRAIIT PAPERS. Also have for sale the "Wilcox. Gibb» Saving Machine," which wc invite you to call and see.
Any goods not on hands promptly ordered. Thankful for past favors wo would respectfully ask you ALL to call. mar 22'66.] L. A. FOOTE & CO.

MEDICAL.
DR. JOHN BULL'S
COMPOUND
CEDRON BITTERS!
Tlic Latest and Most Important ..Discovery of tlieNineteenth Century
No man's name is more intimately connected with the history of Materia Medica of the United States, or more favorably known as a pioneer in medical discovery, than that of
John Bull, of Louisville, Ky.
Ilis inimitable preparation of Sarsaparilla has long stood at the head of tho various compounds of that valuable drug.
HIS COMPOUND OF WILD CHERRY
Has becomc a household word throughout west and south.
ths
His "Worm Lozenges
In less tli/n a year after thoir introduction attained a reputation as wide-spread as the continentof North America.
But the crowning glory of his life remains to bo attained in his late discovery, or rather combination, for ho docs not claim to have been the discoverer of
Which is the basis of tho bitters now offered tr the public. That honor belongs to the native inhabitants of Central amorica, to whom its virtues have been known for more than two hundred years. Armed with it the Indian bids deflanco to tbo most deadly malaria, and handles, without fsar, the most venomous serpent. It is a belief with them, that while there is breath left in the body, the Cedron is potent to euro, no matter what tha disease may be.
While Dr. Bull is not prepared to endorse this extravagant protension, he is, nevertheless, satisfied from a thorough examination of theovidenco relating to its virtues, that as a remedy and preventive for all di.-cascs arising from exposure, el--:-thcr to changes of weather and climate, or to tho miasmatic influences, it stands
WITHOUT A RIVAL!
And justly deserves the reputation it has so long enjoyed in Central Americaand tho Wegtem States.
IIS! DYSPEPSIA
And all its attendant traiE of symptoms, it aids more like a charm than a medicine. Tbore i* nothing in the whole range of Materia Medica that can for a moment bear a oomparison with it in this disease.
A full account of this wonderful plant may be found in the 11th edition of tho U. S. Dispensatory, pages 1 it87 and 1338,
A scries of experiments in which Dr. Bull ha? been for years engaged, has just been brought to a successful termination, and ho is now enabled to offer to tho public a combination of CEDROJT with other approved tonics the whole preserved ia tqc best quality of copper distilled Bourbon whisky, which ho is confident has no equal in th® world.
He might furniih a vciitme of certificates, but the public has long since learned to estimate such things at their truo value. Tho safest plan is, for every one to test for himsolf tho virtues of a new medicine.
