A Ricli Cow Scrape.
An Erie paper has the following: A short time since an affair occurred in a quiet neighborhood in this city, which, though performed by a, cow. has not been equalled in pantomimic effect or farcical execution since the performance by tho "Bull in the China Shop."
A family of three persons, oho lady and two gentlemen, were startled from a quiet condition of mind about the time they were preparing to retire for tho night, by an unusual clatter in an adjoining shed. One of tho men, in his stocking feet, cautiously opened a door leading from the dining-room to tho outside apartment, and discovered a cow with her head stuffed into a barrel of swill, with her horns fast, and, in her efforts to extricate her antlers, she had overturned a table upon which there had been stacked a quantity of tinware, crockery, iron-pots, &c. Hence
long enough to resurrect, the dead. Tlie gentleman at once proceeded to drive away the cause of. this disturbance, and in so doing brought a dog into the ring, who, with a bound, fastened upon the cow and caused her to shake oft' her dishonestly-acquired head-dress, and with nose down and tail aslant she made a dart through the door, left open, into tho dining-room, where she came in contact with a table laid ready to receive the breakfast of the following morning and sundry other things, the upsetting and banging about of which created the greatest confusion imaginable.
Meanwhile the other gentlemant.who had already retired into an adjoining bedroom, arose in his nether garments and opened the door of his room to see what was going on outside. The cow thought the opening of this door afforded her an opportunity to make her escape, and accordingly rushed into the bedroom. Here she met with opposition. Tho space in tho room unI occupied by the bed was scarcely large enough to admit her in full length, and iso narrow that she could not turn besides, thu occupant of the room received her by the horns and endeavored to back her out.
Now commenced the genuine sport of the scone. Tho little fellow inside was pitching and rearing and swearing at the heSd of the cow, first on the bed, then in the alley, and next in close proximity to the ceiling, his limbs arid skirts gyrating and flapping around with wonderful velocity, while the man in the dining-room had seized the animal by the tail and was pulling, tugging, laughing and yelling, and the cow bellowing and fighting desperatel3T. Together.the men see-sawed her back and forth for some time before they succeeded in backing her out.— Finally she was driven into the street, but no fire or moving ever created more confusion in the affairs of a household than was hero created by the presence of this cow.
Rejected Grain.
,:,An
immense amount of rejected corn lias lately been received in Chicago.— Entire trains and boat loads of grain daily pass "rejected." The imperfect cleaning of the grain and the negligent man nor of sending it to market is said to be the cause of this rejection, which entails a loss of from three to eight cents per bushel. The loss to the West when duly approximated no us
