AX ENLISTMENT IXtlKO'T. At Newport, R. I., Thursday, one of the companies of the new regiment was mustered in, but several minors were rejected, because the}' did not procluce the certificate of consent of their parents. One young man, whose mother is a widow, had enlisted and went to his mother with his certificate for her nignaturo. But she not being willing for him to go, withheld her consent but finally, after much persuasion, said 8ho would give her consent upon one condition—that her son should thrust his finger at random through the leaves of the closed Bible, and tho text upon which it rested should decide her action in the matter, lie did as ho was requested, and his finger, where the Bible was opened, was found over the two following verses of 2d Chronicles, 29th chapter, 16th and 17th verses: "To-morrowgo ye down against them behold, they coino up by the cliff of Ziz and ye shall find them at the end of tho brook, before the wilderness of Jerusalem.

Yo shall not need to fight in this bat tie set yourselves, stand ye still, and see the salvation of the Lord with you. O-Jadah and Jerusalem, fear not nor be dismayed to-morrow go yo out against them, for the Lord will be with you."

The mother read and consented.

The Prince cle Joinville, who has superior military judgment, is highly pleased with the appearance of our "•Jltroopfi, and having examined our fortifications in Virginia speaks of them in the highest terms, and expresses the opinion that they are'inipregnable to •any forco which the rebels may bring against them.

£©"»Siucc the war commenced the rebels have taken 64 prizes, valued at nearlv £3,000,000, and our navy has taken 52, valued at §2,000,000, which leaves §1,000,000 in favor of the piratical side. The seizure of southern vessels in northern ports, under the confiscation act, is not, however, reckoned which amounts to at least two million dollars, a considerable portion of which will accrue to the Government,

"Mj family have had in uso, for the last eight months, ono of Ladd, Webster &. Co's Sewing Michines, and they cheerfully bear testimony to ita great excellence. It fulfills all the promises of th» agent concerning it. It is simple, easily worked^: never gets out of order, and makes as even and hand* some a stitch as any other maehino. Before procuring this machine, my family used Grover 4 Baker's, and Wheeler Wilson's, and they would nol cxchanee Ladd, Webster Co's for either of them.
