The .deeeascd was bora near Danville. Kentucky, Dec. L."th. 1^12, and was therefore in his 49th roar. -He had been a r^-iSent of Crawfordsviile nearly 26 year", having come to this place in 1835. Few .persons have been more distinguished for nmiablcncss of disposition, courteous and honorable deportment, and uniform readiness to perform acts of kindness, than was the individual whose death wo now rccord. These trai!s of character secured to him. to a very great extent, the csiecpi of his fellow-citizens. Tne estimation in which he was held was impressively shown by the general sympathy exhibited in his death, and the unusually large attendance at his funeral.

The sickness winch terminated in his death was of about five weeks uuvat'on. The disease was, in its first attack, violent, ,an-.l threatened speedy dissolution. Lrom this auaci- however there was a partial recovery, and sanguine hopes, for a time, were entertained that he would be restored to health. "This determination, he added,-was dot the iresutt of :££citcment produced by his'sickncts, Jiut of deliberate refiection and deep conviction. He had often felt the obligation to pursue this course, and often resolved to^do it: but had hitherto permitted discouragements to prevention. II6 hoped ihe/pusposo now formed ho would- be, enabled to carry into effect". And it may with truth be said •that his whole deportment during.his sickness and all Ihe feciingS he exhibited fully corresponded with the determination thus expressed. After ihe second attack of his disease, and but, two hours before his death,, he said, in answer to enquiries made of him, that lie had endeavored to commit himself into the hands of Christ—that ho was fully
