Our readers tire familiar with the transactions in which Montgomeiy .and his men played so prominent jtpurt in l857-'58. The Amnesty Act, which was passed by the Legislature in 1858, was intended to dispose of all the old differences between the Federal authorities and those who were under indictment from the U. S. Courts. After the passage of that bill 'Montgomery and his confederates expressed themselves ready to yield submission thereafter to the legal tribunals, and to aid, if jiecessary. in the arrest of all offenders.
