TREE PLANTING.

It is not yet too late to set out trees, and as fall planting is generally considered preferable, we hope none of onr readers will, let the winter set in without

Tho advantages of fall planting are that the winter and spring rains settle tiie dirt rbout the roots, so that when the season arrives tl'ie ties is ready to grow besides

this the ground is dry in tho fall, but in the spring it is often wet, which causes the dirt to bake about the roots of the tree.

Trees may bo transplanted at any time from the first frost till the ground is frozen too hard foo dig it. Our forests aro full of beautiful trees. A few of the fin

est set out every fall, would, 111 a few years add greatly to tho beauty ot homes. Let us not neglect it. Who ever saw a house with too many trees around it, unless it was set, in ilic midst of the primeval for-

Fort RSTER?—What

a knack some farmers have of putting o!f their fall work till winter sets in. Then

corn is nnhusked, potatoes vndug, appples unpicked, cellars unstopped,—in fact, tho fall work generally loft undone, just as il old Jack Frost was not at their heels, ready to do them all the mischief in lus power. Wonder if any of our loaders are of this class? If so, we advise them to turn over a new leaf in their liven. WinU'i is not yet hero, and by a little extra exertion they may yet be ready to greet luui as an old friend, who, (hough, not always welcome heretofore, may now be greeted

Every farmer, wo would i!i:nk, is fully awave that ho should provide shelter for all his horses clown to his poultry but how many there are, who permit, year af'er veur to pass away without uoing so. To stir tip Lhe "pure nun.is" of su. as those, oy wav of l'einem'oraneo. will surely uo uo liarin. "NYe would therefore suggest tn our

How to Clean Furs.

The season for weanr.g furs io rapiitly

approaching, and as doubtlsSt, many ol our lady readers would be obliged to us for teaching 1 hem to "make i.hem a* jrood as new," we subjoin tho following directions: Strip the fur articles of then stuffing and binding, and lay them a much «o possible in a flat position. Ttioy must then be subjected to a very brisk brushing with a still clothes-brushj after this, any moth-eaten parts must be cut out, and be neatly replaced by new bits of fur to match, baule, chinchilla, squirrel, fitch,

&C-, should be treated as follows. Waim a quantity of new bran a pan, taking carc that it docs not burn, to prevent which it must be aelhely i-tiucd. hen •well warmed, rub it thoioughly into the fur with the hand repeat this two or three times then shake the fur, and give it another sharp brushing unfit free fiom dust.

White furs, ermine. &e., may be cleaned as follows: Lny tho fur on the table, and rub it well with bran, nujist »\nh uaiin

water nib it until quite dry, and afterwards with dry bran. The wet bran should be put on with Hannel, anil the dry with a piece of book-muslin. The light furs, in addition to the above, should be well rubbed with magnesia, on a piece of book muslin, after the bian process. Furs are usually much improved by stretching, which may be managed as follows: To a

pirt of soft water add three ounces of salt dissolved with this solution sponge the inside of the skin (taking care not to wet •"thefur,) until it becomes thoroughly saturated then lay it carefully on a boaid, with the fur side down ward, in it* natural position then stretch as much as it will bear, and to tho requited shape, and fa&ttn with small tacks. Tho drying may be quickened by plaving the skin about si A OI eight inches from the fire or ove.
