SLAVE REBELLIONS!
Their Lessons!
The Indianapolis Jouinal thus speaks of the Slave Rebel ions in the South. W'e pnMish this morning a brief account of a negro conspiracy in Tennessee and the steps taken by tho whites to check it. Two or three days ago another, but less fo-'mi-able conspiracy, was detected in some of i'ie western counties of Kentucky. Another, that had progressed to the extent of providing arms for an outbreak, was discovered in Misouri a week or two ago. In Virginia extensive combinations of slaves have been discovered, or repoited so at least, as also in Arkansas and Alabama. All appear to have been formed about the saute time, or rather discovered about the same time, as the news of them only extends back two or three weeks. There is something worth thinking about, in the^e facts. L''t us see wn-:t they moan. The exMeneo of a single combination, embracing points so widely se c.at'd, we can haniiy consider possible. It is far more likely that some cause working alike in all tiiesn localities, has produced this singular coincidence of action among the slavewithout any common understanding.— What cause can that be? ,,Abolition Enii*arics," says one. Hardly. "Abolitionists''" are not a whit more seif-sae-lii'is.ing than other men, and, during the •past year it was about equivalent to hanging'or anybody suspected of that com-j plaint to be scon aonth of the Ohio. Besides, there is no mention of "aboliiion") provocation in these late cases, exeept that in Tennessee, in which a white man j:aiu(«/is said to ha1.e been the ins'i^ator.— "The Republican 'abolition, excitement.' a. Democrat will say. Still more unlikely than the other. What Republican ha* dared to speak or writi' lii opinion* in any lave Stale, a hundred rniies from a Free Mate line? Republicans have not been allowed to run a ticket in most of the bive States, or urge their views upon the hi'es, let alone the negroes. The Republicans ennnot have produced discontent an:OUL the slaves. To do that, tiie slave must hear or read, and where has a slave hear:' anything but Democratic or proslavciy speeches, during the psst year?—

that -'Black Republicanism" was bringing upon tho institution, and every debate I ween rival parties was a dispute as to which would do the most to crush the terible giant. Could the most diabolical "abolitionist" take a better way to excite thehopes, [and kindle the hate, of ihe slave? The masters have only themselves to thank if their negroes have acquired the belie! that a great Northern pmty was organising to tree them, and have got exageratod notions of that puity's power. The master to serve bis party's ends, has lied about the Republican movement, and his slave has bjiieved him. Lies like curses, come home to roost. These gentlemen may find some day, that they will lose nothing by telling the trnth even of their opponents. The insurections of Virginia, Tennessee.
