On last Saturday, epiritH and enthusiastic, meetings i^fire held in sevefral Township# in the County. In Old Brown the sterling Republicans were addressed at Wayeland by James Wilson in a speech two hours and a half in length. We did not hear hear it, but are informed that it was one of liis happiest efforts. Jim. by his unwavering course in the cause of Freedom, and by his eloquent and tellihg speech: es, wherever he goes, is gathering around fum hosts of friends who are determined to elect him as out own proud,, representative in the next National Council. Jim i« greeted everywhere by large audiences and overwhelming enthusiasm. His triumphant election is written in letters too plain to be misunderstood. Let the Old Liners begin to shudder for their cause.
Judge Naylor also made a speech which was frequently interrupted by deafening cheers.
Tom Osborn spoke to about two hundred of the hardy sons of toil, at Center School-house in Walnut township. We learn that his masterly effort was well received. Tom is doing good service where over he goes.
At Middletnwn Dr. T. W. Fry addressed a large and enthusiastic assembly in a speech that had its effect. Old Wayne in wheeling into line.
At night the Court House in this place was crowded by the friends of Freedom and Fremont, and addressed by Dr. Fry James Wilson and Fin her Doherty. The speeches of these unflinching friends of Freedom were well received and frequently interrupted by the cheers and shouts of the enthusiastic multitude.
Republicans of Old Montgomery, our skies are bright. The Ball of Fremont and Dayton is gatlieriug strength at every revolution.

/3T On last week we announced the name of James M. Crawford as tho Candidate for Prosecuting Attorney for the 8th Judicial District. Our readers will observe that his name is JAMES M. CARPENTER instead of Crawford. We stand corrected and are glad the mistako is no worse. We are personally acquainted with Mr. Curpenter and can, with a hearty good will, recommend him to the freemen of the 8th District. With the rest of our ticket he will be elected.
1ST ountsville is wide awake. She has commenced the good in earost. A large Republican club of gentlemen, and ladies, is foimed in that pleasent villiage. That's right! the la lies are all with us. -Wv
We would like to hear how Alamo is progressing in tho good cause. Don't let Yountsville take the lead, keep the ball in motion.

We refer our readers to the letter Dan Mace which will be found in another column. Our fri-nds who were doubtful of Dan's stability in the Republican cause will find that he is all right.
Let our Old Line friends now stop their howling about Dan's! reaohery. Dan will be at honifi soon, and will otump the Dis't in favor of Jim Wilson ond Fremont.— Had Dan been at Washington at the time the vote was taken on the Brooks case, he would have voted to expel the monster. But Dan needs no vindication from us, his acts stand out in bold relief, as proof of his devotion to the cause of Freedom. Dan will let the Old Liners hear from him in a manner they won't like before the Elec

Mr. Mason the former and well known Proprietor, is now associated th Mr. A. C. Haneman in the management of the House. These are gentlemen worthy the patronage of the traveling public, because of their successful endeavors to render their, comfortable. As we know from actual experience and observation their tables are furnished with allthe luxuries of the land, we can recommend this Hotel to these of our friends who visit Lafayette as truly the home of the weary traveler wtiflje he may find refreshments, aud rest to his soul* satisfaction.

'A resort to arms," says Patrick Henry, "is the last argument of kings." With equal truth it may be said that a resort to Meanness is thelest and only argument to which many of |he did liners now resort.
But a week or two ago, we had occasion to:speak of a most atrotions outrage committed by the enemies of free speech, upon its: friends not far from Crawfordsville.— We refer, of course, to the fact that the putrid carcas of a horse ha 1 been dragged into a school-house, where a Republican meeting had been announced to take place. This outrage upon common decency'and humanity this act worthy, only of the barbarian or the savage, was perpetrated in our own neighborhood, and the CrawfordsTille Review has yet to condemn it.
And still another has been committed. On Tuesday evening, Geo. D. Hurley, and Thos. O. Osborn, addressed their fellow citizens of Franklin Township, at Shanondale. Mr. Hurley had made an eloquent speech, and Mr. Osborn had been speaking some time when his eloquent denunciations of Kansas outrages and Administrution culpability brought down upon him the ungovernable wcatli of some old liners then and there present, and the speaker wan greeted with a shower of rocks and egg*. Nothing daunted however, Osborn went on with his speech, and effected a most complete triumph over the enemies of free speech—they were cowed by the force of the truths which he so eloquently 6poke.
We just want to know how long these cowardly ontiages, from the Senate Chamber, 1o the cross-road, are to be committed against the rights and liberties of American people How long arc they to be sustained and appoligized for by old lino speakers, and the old line press
It is proper to state that many of the old liners who were present at Shannondale, condemned the gross outrage of which we have been speaking:'
Intellectual Feasts.
The past week in our city has been one of unusual bustle and slir. From Monday evening until the present writing it has been a "feast of reason and flow of soul." Wabash College has given the principal entertainments. The exercises commenced cn Monday evening. Prize declamations were delivered by the boys, much to the edification of all present. Mr. W.J. ESSICK took the first prize. Tuesday evening B. R. SCLGROVE, Editor of the Indianapolis Journal, addressed the two Literay Societies'and a largo concourso of our citizens at Center Church. Mr. Sulgrove's Address was well received. It was a plain practical discourse and elicited the attention of all present. Would that all our young men could have heard it.
We may further refer to it next week.— It is worthy of the highest comment. We would be glad to lay it before our readers without note or comment. It is a document which speaks for itself.
The Graduating Class made their speeches on Wednesday morning. They were all fine productions and evinced a thorough research in scientific knowledge. Every body seemed highly gratified with the manner in which the.se young gentlemen acquitted themselves. This amiable Class we have long known personally we have been intimate with each member, and can recommend them to the world as true scholars. As they all go forth to mingle in the world's great drama we wish them all possible success in the great conflict in life. May the efforts of each one be crowned with the r! world's highest honors.
Hurrah for Fremont:
We notice by ou 1 ite exchanges that the free thinking Democrats all over our country are deserting the black flag of Border Ruffianism and aro coming over to Fremont by scores and hundreds.
Pennsylvania the home of Buchanan is wheeling into line. The Republican cause is carrying the old Key-Stone Stite I11 emont will carry it by 20,000 majority.
Letter from Ban. Mace. NEW YORK, July 17, '56. DEAR ELLIS:—I left Washington some twenty days ago, having paired ofl with Richardson, of 111., on a trip North for the benefit of Mrs. Mace's health, which has been and is yet, quite bad: though improved by the trip. We were in all the prieipal places of New England —Hartford, Salem, Boston, Concord, and the White Mountains.
I return to Washington on to-morrow. Every place where we have visited, Fro mont and Dayton are largely in the ascendent. They will carry by a large majority all the New England States, New York, New Jersey, and, in my opiuion, every free state in the Union.
I am reported, in the papers of this city, by mistake, as votiiig against tho resolution to expel Brooks—of course I gave such vote. I am rejoiced to see the Flag of Fremont and Wilson waving in triumph in the 8lh Congressional District, and the State of Indiana. No preventing providence, I will be at home and take the stump immediately on the adjournment of Congress. Your friend,
W. R. ELLIS.

Mr.
WALLACE made a* speech about two and a half hour's long at Alamo, on last Saturday. It was a tissue of misrepresentatidn from first to last. Here is a specimen of his assertions, to prove which he did not produce a single factor argument. 1. The Republican party are all Abolitionists, who are in favor of the immediate abolition of Slavery—in favor of bestowing upon the negro the right of suffrage, and of taking it away from poor white men. 2. That upon iltf Emigrant Aid Society rested the blame of all the criuie and bloodshed in Kansas.*, 3. That the Democrats had passed a bill in the Senate for the admission of Kansas as a Free State and that the supporters of Fremont were opposed to said Bill. 4. That he was a better Free Soiler now than when he edited an Abolition paper in 1848. 5. That Massachusetts and tho other Northern States had hired 400,000 men to go to Kansas this Summer, whose mission was to kill and drive out a. iual settlers, and then to return to their homes. 6. That the Aid Society had invested five millions of dollars in Kansas. 7. That they had declared a dividend of f-ixty thousand dollars gain. 8. That Know Nothing Lodges were in full blast all over the County. Here he beat the air—talked of Louisville nnd Cincinnati Riots—and spent a vast amount of wind to no purpose.
The.se are about one-half the broad and unfounded assertions of Wallace. They are taken from memory and that the man "who took notes" may not be held responsible for this, permit me to subscribe myself, JAMES M. SIMPSON.
JST" The Democratic Platform, published at Indianapolis, says the Devil does not stand on the Old Line Platform. 01 course he does not because he is one of the main pillars that hold it up, aud can't be on it and under it both.
mr We have received the first No. of the National Democrat, published at Grecnoastle B. F. STOVER, formerly of this place, Editor and Proprietor. It is a large and neatly printed tsheet.
It is an old line paper. Politically we hope it may never make a proselyte pecuniary we wish Mr. Stover much success.
We observe that tho hoop-a-watha
has broken out in our town with alarming violence. The price of hogshead hooppoles has advanced, and the cry at the extension of slavery has suddenly changed into a giggle at the extension of petticoats. No lady appears in public with one of 'em less in circumference than a sugar hogshead, and the oft quoted linos— "She walks in beautj like the night
Of cloudless climes and starry skies" may now be uot improperly changed to— Sac rolls in big hoops like the cask
