Retraction"—Over the t-f-e-L
In our local column of last week's
issue, M-© took occasion to make some remarks—not very flattering in their nature— concerning the supposed writer of the "Theatrical Criticism" in the Review. We have since had an interview with the gentleman and are convinced that we have cast very unjust reflections upon his character, which. so far as we know is without rer.roach, and cl.ai.go*
desire our readers to understand this ad-
mission on our part as a retraction of what we then said. We wore induced to write the article by the representation of a person whom we have reasons to believe had some personal motive of revenge and wliiie wo detest the spirit which prompted him, we are happy to make a suitable apology to the injured party. But aa wo remarked in our last week's issue, some people arc desirous to see their names in print, and as we are disposed to gratify the vanity of our personal friends, we most cheerfully give publicity to the above spicy gem, giving all tho proper quotations and credits. "Honor to whom honor is" ki\, is a faithful axiom, and we frcl no disposition to purloin the brains of another, and palm it off as original with u\ And now that we have

C. R. Ii. Oficc, Vandalia, June 21, 1854. PROFESSOR Woon— DEAR SIR: I take pleasure in bearing voluntary testimony to the excellence of your Hair Restorative. Three months ago, my hair was very gray. It is now a dark brown, (the original color,) smooth and glossy. The only application I have made to it, has been the Hair Restorative prepared by you, and which, from the result in my own case, 1 can most cordially recommend to others. Respectfully, vours,

PROF. WOOD: As you are about to prepare and vend your recently discovered Hair Restorative, and as you request my opinion of it, I will state, that my hair was, a few months ago, very gray, and after using to bottles of your Hair Restorative, it resumed its original color nnd since its application, all dandruff has disappeared from my head, and 1 have been troubled with no disagreeable itching of the scalp. I am satisfied, that those who use it, will not regret it, as it srives the appearance of having been recently oiled. I am prcdared, therefore, to recommend its use to ali who are desirous of having a. beautiful head of hair. I am, sir, yours, ect.
II. L. STEWART.
PROF. WOODDEAR, SIR: My hair had, for several years, been becoming prematurely gray, accompanied by harshness which rendered tho constant application of oil necessary in dressing it. When I commenced using your Hair Restorative, about two montH ago, it. was in that condition artd having continued its use till within the last three weeks, it has turned to its natural color, anu assumed a softness nnd lustre greatly to be preferred to those produced by the application of oils or any other preparation I have ever used. I regard it as indispensable article for every lady's toilet, whether to be used as a Hair Restorative, or for the simple purpose of dressing or beautifying the hair. You have permission to refer to me all who entertain and doubt of its performing ail thai ia claimed for it. JiRs. C. SY'viONDS.

A IIU.'iAN LIFi SAVED. DOWAOIAC, Mich., 51 arch II, 1P5G. J. 4V. RIIOADS, Esq. Dear Sir—As I took your medicine to sell 011 consignment, 'no cure 110 pay,' I take pleasure in stating its cifects as reported to me by three brothers who live in this place, and their testimony is a fair specimen of all I have received.
W. S. COXKLIX told me—'T had taken nine bottles of Christie's Agne Balsam, and continuallyrun down while using it until my lungs ami live.i were congested to that degree that blood discharged Jrom my mouth and bowels, so that all thought it. impossible for me to live through another chill. The doctors too did ail they could for me,but tho't I must die. Nothing did me any good until I got Rhodes' Fever and Ague Cure, whicn at once relieved me of the distress and nausea at my stomach and pain in my head and bowels, and produced a permanent cure in a short time."
II. M. COXKI.I.V says 'I had been taking medicine of as good a doctor as we have in our county, and tal en any quantity of quinine and specifics without any good result, from 35th August to 17th December. But seeing how nicely it operated on ipy brother, I cot a bottle of Rhodes' Fever and Ague Cure, which effected a permanent euro by using two thirds of a bottle."
S. M. CONKLI.V was not here, but both the other brothers sav his case was the same as II. M's. I sold the medicine to both the same day, and the cure was as speedy from the same small quantity, and I miaht so soeclfy. Yours with respect,
A. HUNTINGTON.
The above speaks for itself. Good proof as it it is of 110 better tenor than the vast number of
Iii I greater amount that is continually pouring in to nio. One thing more. Last year I had occasion to Caution the public in these words:— "I notice one firm wqo have taken one of my general circulars, substituted the name oftheir nos trun for my medicine, and then with brazen impudence end their pamphlet with the exclamation, "Let the proprietor of any other medicine say as much if he dares.'" &c.
Now I take pleasure in saying that the Caution referred to the same 'Dr. Christie's Ague Balsam' that is mentioned in the above certificate.
There are several other industrious peopl who arc applying to their poisonous trasc all that I publish about my Fever and Ague Cure, or Antidote to Malaria, except the Certificates of Cures, and the Certificate of the celebrated Chemist, Dr. Jas, R. Chilton, of N. Y., in favor of its perfectly HAR5ILESS CHARACTER, which is attached to every bottle. These will always serve to distinguish my medicine from imitations.
