Lorenzo Dow.
The best anecdote of Lorenzo Dow that we have seen is, that being one evening at a hotel kept by one Bush in Delphi, N. Y., the residence of the late Gen. Root, lie was importuned by the latter gentleman in the presence of the landlord, to dcsciibe Heaven. "You say a good deal about Heaven, Sir." said the General, "pray tell us how it looks."
Lorenzo turned his grave face" and long Waving beai-d toward the General and Mr. Bush, and replied with impurturable gravity. "Heaven, my friends, is a vast extent of smooth, rich territory. There is not a Rgot or a Bush in it, and there never will be

New Mode of Swarming Bess. £3JT A. Harris, of ihe Cleveland Herald, was fonong the excurticnists to fioclc Island. From one of his really excellent letters from that pointwc clip the following incident "A litllc in client at Bureau, one of the richest counties in the State, may betaken, we trust, as an index of the fueling of the people of I!!inoT§" on "the 'suFj'ict of the Kan-as and Nebraska outrage. Some 150 t") 2 JO people were ss ambled, an A before the cars started some one of the crowd remarked quite amiably that 'Nebraska couldn't come it!' 'We'll see,' said ilr. (,'. Butler, brother of 1. F. Butler, the celebrated New York politician, from the platrm, 'let us take a vot-3. .ill you, citizens of Illinois, who are in favor os the Nebraska bill, please hold up your hands.' An ominous sileace prevailed, and not a single hand was raises. 'Now,' continued Mr. B., 'those of you opposed to the Nebraska bill, please raise your hands.' The show was general and accompanied by a waving of hats and hearty cheers, 'fcfuch is the unanimous voice of Bureau county,' said one of the 'old settlers,' and, continued he, 'Douglas is politically dead, and only want's to be pitched into a demagogue's grave.'"
A Truly Remarkable Case. We frequently iind reported among the certificates of patent medicines very remarkable cures, which for the general credibility of all affidavits we should be inclined to doubt but the following case is so wonderful that we feel a disposition to give publicity to it. It is stated of a celebrated patent medicine man: "A boy had swallowed a silver dollar. None of the faculty could devise any alleviation, whereupon the inventor of the cure all medicine was sent for. "It is evident," said he, "that so considerable a coin can never be forced by any •emetic known to science. However let him take this pill, and flattering consequences will ensue."
An hour afterwards the boy threw up the dollar, but in small change, principally five cent pieces!

SAI-JVM,Ohio, 11th June 1651.—Doct. J. C. Aver —I write to inform you of the truly remarkable effects of your Cherry Pectoral in this place, and in my own family. One of my daughters was completely cured in three days Whooping Cough, by taking it. Dr. Tvleans, one our very best physicians freely states that he pulmona-

Gur clergyman of the Baptist Church says that during the run of Influenza here this season, he has seen cures from your medicine he could scarely have believed without seeing.
Yours respectfully, J. D. SINCLAIR, Deputy Postmaster. From the distinguished Professor of Chemistry and Materia Medica, Bowdoin College.—I have found the Cheary Pectoral, as its ingredients show, powerful remedy for colds, coughs, and pulmonary diseases.

Cures of severe diseases upon the Lungs have been effected by Cherry Pectoral in such extreme c:iS'JS as warrant the belief that a remedy has at length been founci that can be depended on to cure the Cotghs, Colds and Consumption which carry from our fnfust thousands every year.
