WONDERFUL PARTURITION.—The

Mis

sissippi Times. (Holly Springs) of the 1st Snptember, comes to us with the following announcement: 1 SKVEN CHILDREN AT ONE BIRTH! Mississippi Against the World. The most astonishing parturition recorded in the annals of the human race, we are informed, occurred last week in the vicinity of Salem,Tippan counJty, in this State. Our information is from a gentleman of veracity, who Btates that a lady of that neighborhood has ju?t become the mother of seven children at one birth!

Was there ever a womnji in the world that beat this? Is there a wo£.nan in the world that can beat it?

Is there a woman living that wants to beat it?—Evansville Enquirer.

From the State Jour.

Nobly Done.

At the annual meeting of the Indiana Baptist General Association, held last week at Terre Haute, composed of delegates from all parts of the State, the following resolution was passed with only two votes in the negative:

Resolved, That we. most heartily approve of the principles embodied in the "Maine Law," as affording the only pure check to the direful evils of intemperance and that we earnestly urge upon the Churches to take a desided stand in favor of securing the passHge of a similiar law in this btate by the next session of the legislature, and we do, as individuals, "pledge our lives, fortunes, and sacred honor in support of this effort to destroy the Demon of intemperance.

After the passage of the resolution, one of those who voted in the negative, explained, that he voted as he did because the resolution was not strong enoughj and the other stated that he was emphatically in favor of the "Maine Law," but was opposed to the Churches meddling in politics.

We are glad to see this stand taken by the Baptists as they have been charged with coolness in this matter but they have now wipid out this imputation and we rejoice thai the} have left off following after "evil spirits," and will, hereafter, adhere to their loved element—the water, for they deem right'.
