T. BARNUM'S
GRAND COLOSSAL
MUSEUM AND MENAGERIE!
rpuE largest travelling Exhibition in the world, being a combination of all the most popular and unexceptionable amusements of the age—enlarged and improved l'or the season of 1853. A team of
TEN ELEPHANTS
will draw the great car of Juggernaut.
A BABY ELEPHANT,
only one year old, and but 3 1-2 feet high, will carry upon his back around the interior of the immense Pavilion, the lillipution Gen. TOM THUMB. The Magnificent Cortage comprises 110 horses and 90 men. The Pavillion of Exhibition has been enlarged until it is capable of accommodating 15,000 spectators at once. The collection of living Wild Animals includes the most spendid specimens ever exhibited in America. Anioiif manv others will be found
EIGHT BEAUTIFUL LIONS
fresh from their native forests. A monster White or Polar BEAR—of prodigious size & ferocity. A magnificent Royal TIGER— the largest one ever captured alive. A pair of ycung LIONS—only six months old. An infantile CAMEL—only six months of age, the first one ever born in America, &c., &c.
The drove of ELEPHANTS were captured in the Jungles of central Ceylon, by Messrs. S June and Geo. Nutter, assisted bv 2Go Natives, after a pursuit of 3 months -I days in the Jungles. They were finally entrapped end secured in an Indian Kraal or Trap of enormous dimensions and prodigious strength, where they were subdued. The Calf Elephant accompanies its Dam, and was weaned on its passage from India.
P. T. BALLNUM,
Proprietor of the American Museum, New York, has the honor to announce, that encouraged by the brillian success which has attended all his various efforts for the amusement of the public, he has been led to form the project of organizing a vast travelling
Museum of Wonders,
Which comprises a great variety of attractions, and more extraordinary novelties, than any travelling Exhibition in the world.— Every feature of this Mammoth Establishment is of a peculiar and interesting nature, and the whole is produced upon a gigantic scale of magnitude. The travelling paraphernalia of the American Museum, as it enters each town, is preceded bv the gorgeous
of JUGGERNAUT
Drawn Ten Elephants, superbly capari soiled, being an accurate model uf that torrible engine of idolatrous sacrifice, finished and decorated in all the extravagance of the Hindoo style. Following this monster vehicle, is along procession of costly Cages end Carriages, the whole forming a spectacle of more than Oriental splendor. The Exhibition will take place within a magnificent Variegated Pavilion, oomposed of Arnorican Fags of water-proof fabic. The real, genuine, original
GENERAL TOM THUMB
is attached to this Exhibition, and will appear in all his performances as given before the principal crowned heads of Europe, including Songs, Dances, Grecian Statutes and his admired personations of Napoleon and Federick the Great. The little General is twenty-one years of a^e, weighs only fifteen pounds, and is but twenty-eight inches high. Also engaged
MR. NELLIS,
the man without arms, who will execute his extraordinary feats of loading and firing a pistol with his toes cutting profile lienesses shooting at a mark with a bow and arrowplaying upon the Accordeon and Violincello, etc. Mr. Nellis, in these performances, exhibits a wonderful example of what indomitable energy and industry can accomplish, even when laboring under disadvantages apparently the most insurmountable. A complete Menagerie of living WILD ANIMALS, I'B also included in the American Museum, & at a convenient period during the Exhibition
MR. PIERCE
will enter the Dens of the Wild Beasts, and give his classical illustrations of Hercules struggling with theNaemean Lien: Daniel in the Lion's Den Samson destroying the Lion, &c.
One of the most interesting portions of the exhibition is formed by the great display of a great collection of
WAX STATUARY,
including figurss of the size of lite, of all the Presidents of the United States, and also of a great number of noted characters, American and Foreign, all of which are accurate likenesses, and appropriately costumed. In fact, the whole Establishment is a vast repository of
XVOXDERFVL OBJECTS OF NATUKE A,W ART.
the full particulars of which it. would be impossible to give within the limits of a newspaper advertisement, and which has been brought together at an enormous expenditure of means, forming the largest and most novel traveling Exhibition in this or any ether country.
A fine Military Band will perform the most popular air? of the day, as the processions enters town, and also during the hours of exhibition.
The American Museum and Menagerie will exhibit at CKAWFORDSVILLE, Wednesday, July 13 Terre-Haute, Monday, July 11 Rockville, Tuesday, July 12: Attica, Thursday, July 14 Lafayette, Friday, July 15.
Price of admission 30 cents, Children under 9 years of age half-price. To the Whole of this immense establishment, including General Tom Thumb, the entire collectionjof Wild Animals, Wax Statuary, Mr. Piorce's perfcrmaBces in the Dens, the Baby Elephant, Mr. Nellis' performances, &c., no extra charge under any pretence whatever, let the reports be what they may.

SHOWER BATH. BA1
Hl-fNTr, rts necessity and expediency from the structure and the functions of the skin, the cuticle-is cast oft in minute puwdry scales, many aof which arc retained upon the surface by the pressure of clothing, these mingle with the oily saline products of (he skin, and form a thin crust. This crust, on account of its adhesiveness, collects particles of dust and soot from the at-rno.-phere, and particles of foreign matter fioni our dress, so that, in the coursc of the day, the whole body becomt coated with impurities. If this coating remains it becomes thick and established upon the skin and will produce the following effect
First, the pores will be obstructed, consequently pre.1: pi ration impeded, aid the influence of the skin as an exertivo entire prevented and produ ces the following disease—Indigestion Billious ness, AcciJity A sense of oppression in the pit of the Stomach Depression of the .Spirits Heaviness fold Hands and Feet Numbness of the Limbs, and olhcr parts. Vertigo Nausa, Difficulty of Respiration, Stupor, Irritability. Drowsines, Debility, Extreme Languor and Exhaustion, Restlessness, Cistiveness, Head-ache. Extreme Nervous Agitation, Palpitation of the Heart an Incapacity for the slightest exercise, dull, heavy pain and sense of weight in the Head, a temporary loss of memory, a sense of Curstness, Fulse I. ss frequent and more feeble than usual, Despondency, Emaciation and extreme Debility. A film of foreign substance on the skin will inevitably become the seat of deliterous infectious vapors.— This is one reason why filthy persons contract infecti us diseases more frequently than individuals of more clcanly habits. Bathing is useful to promote cleanliness. 'J his Bath which the undersigned have the right to manufacture and sell is one of the most convenient imaginable, and can be used equal'y well for warm or cold weathrr, for bathing, and only takes one bucket of water to supply it for any length of time. The water is poured into the lo'ver part of (he Bath the person bathing stands upon a platform above the water, and by a si ght movement of the body, throwing ternately from one foot to the other, the water is forced up into the sprinkler, from which it comes d.jwn on the bather with much force, the water passing into the pump Qt the fulcrum, gives great power to the double acting force-pump placed under the feet of the bather, causing the water to be shower down with any desired force indeed the bather has it in his power to produce a violent shock or gentle sprinkle by his own action. One bucket of water will answer every purpose, (as one wash bawl answers to w*»ah onrs face) the same water being thrown over the bath repeatedly in a constant current but it is so arranged that where is not desirable to use the water more tlian once, it can be replaced with fresh water, with very I.ttle trouble.— I hc?c Baths are warranted to be durable in evrry particular. Persons desiring Baths, who live at a dis-tance can be supplied, immediately, by sending their address and twelve dollars. The strictest carc will bet ken in shipping Baths. All orders promptly attended to.
YVM. ROBERTSON, fllanufacturer. The Bath can be seen at J. F. MICK'S Store, on Main street.
