Crawfordsville Review, Crawfordsville, Montgomery County, 9 December 1899 — Page 5
Many persons have their good day and their bad day. Others are about half sick all the time. They have headache, backache, and are restless and nervous. Food does not taste good, and the digestion is poor the skin is dry and sallow and disfigured with pimples or eruptions sleep brings no rest and work is a burden.
What is the cause of all this? Impure blood. And the remedy?
It clears out the channels through which poisons are carried from the body. When all impurities are removed from the blood nature takes right hold and completes the cure.
If there is constipation, take Ayer's Pills. They awaken the drowsy action of the liver they cure biliousness.

Vi(!\v Of a Prominent Physician Helief From Agony. Dr. NHioniinh Niekorson, of Moridon, Conn., out of the most distinguish(Ml pliyMciim.s in New Eii-thind, ex I resident ol tin Meriden Medical K..eioty iind ox Superintendent of the Meriden I lospii il, conniv. nting Upon the right !i person b:is to end his life when he wishes, mid tin* view that a nhysician is justified in Iwistoiiin.i: the 'de'a li of a patient afllicted with :iu ineuralile disease, lias dictated his views on the subject as follows:
M.v position lias not. he.-n changed by the criticisms of tlie clersry ami some brother physicians. I still think, ami always shall, that if a pa:ient is sm'feriug from au incurable disease. and
(Dr. Nehemiah Nickerson.)
he wauls relief from his misery, thai a physician is doing a deed of mercy it he helps liiii! to end his life.
Thai is a proposition that I im prepared to defend. I have equally strong convictions on another proposition, which has brought, upon me a storm of disapproval. That is, that if a man has no obligations to hold him to this world lie has a rialit to leave it whenever he wishes. I claim 'hat a man has a right to commit suicide without being called a fool or insane.
A physician should never yield to a patient's pleading for death unless he knows that the disease is incurable. My critics raise the question of the Infallibility of a physician's judgment. There are some cases in which the physician cannot make a mistake. For Instance, he cannot be deceived by tlie intolerable agonies of the final stages of external cancer.
He knows the hopeless last stages of phthisis. lie knows when the death •hroes of In art dis as are approaching. In other eases, when there is the slightest doubt, h» should call in a consulting physician.
I have relieved the suffering of a •mod many cases in the course of my years' practice. I shall not say a dozen, nor more, nor less, and thus bring down a further lain of criticism.
A patient who was near Ihe end with consumption sent for me. She begged that 1 would not let her suffer tlie last terrible pangs of the disease. Iler husband bogged the same favor as piteously as she. I saw that she could not lne for more than a day or two. I administered chloroform. I kept her under the influence from 1 'clo at night until tlie end. She died at 4 the -xt morning—died peacefully and without paiu, and her husband thanked me when it was all over
I have always used chloroform In such cases. It dulls the sensitive nerves and the spinal cord and arrests the heart action in systole. Its action is gentle.
Such case- are beyond and above the. iaw. Thcv ire not c-uitemplatod by it. They are to lie settled at the bar of the physician'- own judgment. —New York Journal.
