Paved Streets.

ERE area number of resident.on Main street who desire thai that thoroughfare be paved. They have had the members of the council out looking at it and it is said there will be a report made by the committee on streets recommending that the work be done, and the street paved from the Monon crossing to Walnut street. There are many objections urged to the work, but in all probability It will be done and all objections overruled.
Griffith in Luck.
THE
suit of E. C. Griffith, of Crawfordsville vs. Priscilla Ferguson, of Browu county, was tried at Nashville yeseerday. The suit was for the posession of 249 acres ol land located two miles east of Lnionville. A cross complaint was filed alleging fraud and duress. The court decided in favor of the plaintiff.— [Hlcoimington World.

caused, perhaps, by too much "McKinley prosperity,"occurred a few ago in this city. Jack Grifhu, late of Danville, 111, undertook to cross the Styx by the laudanam route, filling himself first with a large amount of barrel house illuminating oil, sold as whisky, and then proceeded to irrigate with the laudanum! the two seemed to have an affinity, and the stomach of M\ Grillin was undisturbed by the mess, lie went home and sadly announced to his wife that he had telephoned for the boat and that he would soon be on his way to kingdom come. She in turn telephoned for the doctor, who discovered that Mr. Griffin was an immune to both poison and emetics. He had to give up the job of poisouing himself, and if he crosses over will be compelled to use rope or shot gun.

Herron we have
a Philippine newspaper, received from his sou, Lieutenant Herron, now in the Orient. The paper is the Manilla Times and bears tindate of Sept. 20, 1899. It is a six column quarto sheet, with wide columns. It is printed in the English language and resembles all foreign newspapers in general makeup. No foreign paper is clearly printed as our American papers are. From the advertising'carried, which is large, banks, restaurants, steamship lines and saloons, one would suppose "were the chief business enterprises of Matiila.

Lebanon, the jury tryiug the case of the State vs. John W. Lockwood, charged with assault with intent to kill George Quackenbush, a neighbor, returned a verdict of acquittal. It was proven that the man Quackenbush was a bully and terror to the neighborhood, and was on the premises of Lockwood, a trespasser, when he was knocked out.

"It will re quire about, fifty thousand enumerators." writes Clifford Howard in the November Ladies Home .Journal, to take the census, and their work must be finished in one month's time, or by the first week of July. 1900. That means that about seventv-iive million people must be recorded in thirty days, or at the rate of two and a half million a day. The rate will be even greater than this, however, for in owns and cities of eight thousand inhabitants the enumeration must be 'completed within two weeks. The enumerators will not be permitted to have any assistance in the work it must be done by them in person, except in such sections of the country as contain a great many foreigners where the employment of interpreters will t)e allowed, as otherwise it would be next to impossible to secure tne I necessary data.
