Fire In Krupp's Germanta dockyard, Kiel, Prussia, did damage to the amount of £100,000.
Eighty acres of rich zinc land near Aurora, Mo., have been sold by D. H. Minor and A.H.Rogers, to a Boston syndicate -for $500,000. This land embraces the Tuttle mine and other big properties. I Lighting struck the Globe furniture plant at Northville, Mich., and set fire to it. The American bed foundry plant I caught fire and both structures were destroyed. Loss, $130,000.
The Tyden ear scat factory at Hastings, Mich., was struck by lishtninjs air* burned to the ground. Loss, $40,000, partly covered by Insurance. ^.t the convention of the Theosophlcal Society of America in Cincinnati the present officers were re-elected.
The First Congregational church at Detroit was crowded by members of patriotic societies, delegates to the tenth annual congress of the Son of the American Revolution. Secretary Alger and Major General Joseph Wheeler were present.
Carl A. Myer, SO years old, professor of German language at the Albany, N. Y., high school, committed suicide.
The shah of Persia has granted a twenty-year concession to a Russian mining company covering the province of Ozorbaijan, the most northerly province of Persia, having an area of 30,300 square miles. The province contains rich copper deposits.
The failure is announced of the Comet Cycle company of Toronto, Ont., one of the oldest and largest bicycle manufacturing firms in Canada.
Harry Lee, a wealthy big game hunter, formerly of Chicago, was married in Seattle, Wash., to Miss Maud Fredericks, a handsome woman of that city.
The death list at Newtown, Mo., from last Thursday's cyclone has reached thirteen and probably will reach sixteen in the next day or two.
Mrs. M. L. Mandarasy. a wealthy resident of San Antonio, Tex., was murdered and her body burned for the purpose of robbery, it is believed. A Mexican laborer, now under arrest, is accused of the crime.
Bellamy Storer, the newly appointed United States minister to Spain, will present his credentials to the queen regent Thursday.
An explosion in the Richmond iron mine at Port Oram, N. J., killed Charles McPeak and James Williams and terribly injured William McPeak, all miners.
William Prusset of Penn's Grove, N. J., injured in the explosion at the Dupont Powder works at Carney Point, N. J., is dead. This makes the sixth death as a result of the explosion.

Son Finishes an Operation His Father, Had Died While Performing. Chicago, May 1.—There was a tr&tpC scene at Hahnemann hospital Saturday afternoon, when Dr. Reuben Ludlam, president of Hahnemann oollege and dean of the faculty, dropped dead of heart disease while performing a delicate surgical operation, and his son, who was assisting him, was compelled, with steady nerve, to complete the operation and leave his father to other hands, not knowing whether he was alive or dead. Dr. Ludlajn, Sr., was widely known and stood at the head of
Homeopathic surgeons. His son. Dr. Reubein Ludlam, Jr., was assisting the elder surgeon when the tragedy occurred. He looked at his father as he lay on the floor, then at the patient on the operating chair, and instantly took up the work where his sire had left off, while the attendants carried the venerable physician to another room. The operation was wholly successful.

John Webber, aged 60 years, at Peterboro, Ont., shot and killed his wife and then shot himself, dying instantly.
It is reported that a movement is on foot to combine the principal large patent leather firms throughout the United States.
An explosion of a can of paint caused the death of Paul Hoffman, aged 14, and seriously burned Frank Bundage, aged 12, at Tiffin, O.
Cleveland wants the next national encampment of the Grand Army of the Republic. The only other candidate is Denver, so far.
Julia Nast. daughter of Thomas Nast, the cartoonist, died Saturday in her room in a boarding house at New York, a supposed suicide.
A farewell dinner was given at the Massachusetts club, Boston, to Senator Hoar, who is about to leave for EuroDe. and he spoke against trusts.

Mrs. Lew Cochran is lying at death's door with consumption at her home near Cherry Grove. Mrs. Cochran is the youngest daughter of Samuel Hut ton, who is the only survivor of the older family of that name.
