THE REVIEW CO.

THE WOULD-BE "ORGAN" FAILED TO BE ENDORSEE. After many weary weeks of great bearing down pains, vast internal labor and much blood sweating, the little joke who runs some sort of a newspaper on west Main street, failed to get the central committee to act the part of damphools for him last Saturday at its called meeting at the court house. The committeemen simply could see no policy nor sense in such work, and the jjke laid awake all night it is said cursing the danged democrats who failed to view matters as he did, and scheming out plans for their early political extinction. He had been working night and day for weeks for the purpose of securing the endorsement of his unique sheet as the organ of the party, and now to fail was gall and wormwood to the little creature. What particular benefit it is to any paper in being denominated the "organ" ia not apparent to most people. THE REVIEW will continue as in the past to faror democratic principles, democratic men and measures, and will never favor any renegade republican who may slip into the democratic camp seeking for official ^':.3ition. We]said not one word to any 'of the committee regarding the "organ" business, and whether they may declare any publication the "organ" hereafter, is a matter of utter indifference to us.

We most assuredly will make no solicitations one way or the other. It is the character, truthfulness and honest independence that gives any publication its standing in the party, not the whining, sycophantic, todying and in ordinate self esteem of its publisher. Sincerely if the little creature had the sole and only democratic paper here, how long would it continue that way? Could any individual of his personality, peculiar business [methods, inordinate conceit and known unpopularity have the field alone for six months? Certainly not. lias he a half dozen real influential political friends in Crawfordsville? If so please mention them. This is the individual who less than three years ago was an advocate of the single gold standard, and is beemingly such a devout silver advocate now. lie probably was not thinking so much of the "organ'" business as at this time. This is the same individual who in 189G when Jan.es Sellers, George Paul, Jas, Wright and a few other democrats offered to instil some sound political sense into his publication by furnishing articles on the money, tariff and labor questions, of interest during the campaign, proposed charging them $700 per column while it was in progress. They reasonably concluded that the support of the would-be "organ" came most tro high and the matter was dropped. From the above it would seem that his "organ" was attuned at a very high key.

CAN'T CONVINCE THEM. President McKinley will have an uphill job to convince a majority of the American people that the correct thing to do is to annex or colonize the Philippine islands. If they are retained by us they must be the same as us, free and independent states, allowed to make their own laws and have representation in Congress. The eight or nine millions of inhabitants of the Philippines are barbarians, pure and simple uncivilized and degraded. The comin?reu or [trade from that country in its best days has never reached a sum per year anywhero near what it would cost this country to keep a standing army over there. The wisest thing this country can do, now that we have the Philippine, islands is to make prompt arrangements to 1 at go of them.

THE judgment obtained against exTreasurer Hutton was something over $3,GOO. At commissioners' court last week near 51,200 were allowed the attorneys employed by the county in tbe prosecution of the case. Now after Bonnell and M.axwell are paid, and a few other extras it would be interesting to the tax payers to know just how much tbo county ia ahead on this suit.

THE SENATORIAL RACE.

The strife for the nomination of S Senator among some live or six republican politician0 is becoming qui animated and interestirg. They all have their hf»nchmi»n and paid lieutenants, ami Indianapolis hotels are beginning to be filled with them. Tney button-hclrt every member of tlieir party, and their importunities) are incr^asin^ in favor of their favorite?. Such actions tend to disgust plain, nntter of fact, sensible citizene. In the office of the prominence and responsibility of United States Senator it looks like the office should come to the tn-iii wilhout his own seeking and without getting down to the low plane of political wire pulling and dirty political intrigue. There .ought to ba some men in the party of sufficient standing, ability and fitness from whom a selection can be made, shorn of political scheming and paity rewards. The republican party, however, in this State run is short of great men, but long ou cheap potty politicians of the Kurnal John Wingate stripe. They are in tbe majority now and thoy control tne. votes, and they will win at this next selection for Senator regardless of the unfitness of their selection whoever it may be. A statesman and a politician are two different beings, but the latter class seem to have the reins in hand just now in the republican party in Indiaua.

CANDIDATES* EXPENSES.

A bill for a law limiting the expenses of State and county candidates during political campaigns is to be introduced at the next session of the legislature. Candidates after an election, acco-ding to the bill, must make affidavit as to the amount of money Bpdiit bv thetri, and if over a certain amount the devil will be to pay generally. It is aimed, we judge, to shut off as far as popsible the importunities of the numerous dead beats and henchmen that fawn around and worry the life of candidates. Tbe law, if it becomes such, will amount to nothing. Candidates will not tell exactly or anywhere near what they pay out, and no law can ever be enacted forcing them to.

There is more Catarrh in this section of the[country than all other diseases put together, and until the last few years was supposed to be incurable, For a great many years doctors pronounced it a local disease, and prescribed local remedies, and by constantly failing to cure with local treatment, pronounced it incurable. Science has proven catarrh to be a constitutional disease, and therefore requires constitutional treatment. Hall's Catarrh Cure, manufactured by F. J. Cheney & Co., Toledo-vOhio, is the only constitutional cure on the market. It is taken internally in doses from 10 drops to a teaspoonful. It acts directly on the blood and mucous surfaces of the system. They offer one hundred dollars for any case it fails to cure. Send for circulars and testimonials. Address.

Your Danger Now

Is from the overworked condition of the liver and kidneys which are unable to expel impurities from the blood. This causes rheumatism. Hood's rheumatism. Hood's Sarsaparilla has been wonderfully successful in curing this disease. It neutralizes the acid in the blood and permanently cures the aches and pains which other medicines fail to relieve. Hood's Sarsaparilla is the best winter medicine because it purifies, enriches and vitalizes the blood. It gives help just where help is needed. It tones the stomach, stimulates the liver, and arouses and sustains the kidneys. It wards off pneumonia, fevers, bronchitis, colds, coughs, and the grip.
