DM901 evtr stcasmw storm in 1 Sumner?

We never did bat we have seen the clothing at this time of the year so covered with dandruff that it looked as if it had been out in a regular snowstorm.

No need of this snowstorm. As the summer sun would melt the falling snow 60 will

vigor

melt these flakes of dandruff in the scalp. It goes further than this: it prevents their formation.

It has still other properties: it will restore color to gray hair in just ten times out of every ten cases.

And it does even more: it feeds and nourishes the roots of the hair. Thin hair becomes thick hair and short hair becomes long hair.

We have a book on the Hair and Scalp. It is yours, for the asking.

If you do not obtain all the benefits you expected from 'he use of the Vigor, writo the doctor about it. Probably there is gome difficulty with your general system which may be easily re* moved. Addres*.

Descriptive Bits From a St. Paul Man'* Letter* Home. These letters, as they trickle in from the Philippines, are giving an idea, gradually clearer, of the life and conditions of the American soldiers in the Pacific islands. The following extracts are from letters to his family at Fort Snelling, Minn., by Q. A. Oourtrigbt, chief clerk to Captain Jones, quartermaster of the post. One describes a visit to the cathedral. "It is the finest church I ever saw and one of the largest. It has magnificent oil paintings and statues of real gold, some with precious gems. In the one I visited there are several domes, one nearly as high as the one at Washington. But, after all, what do you suppose the church is used for? Barraoks for the Spanish. One had his bed just in front of the altar, another slept in a confessional and their blankets are spread all around the edifice. Guards are placed at all the valuable paintings and images. In one church there is an image of Jesus valued at $176,000 in onr money. It is about three feet high. The display of gilt, gold and silver furnishings is very rich and costly. "While I waa waiting for a shower to pass I watched Eome native children playing. One boy had on a derby hat. I don't know where he got it, but I do know that that was everything he bad on. Another little boy was dressed just in a coat, but they were as happy as anybody and played just like the boys and you and Ruthie. In onr yard here we have several cocoanut trees, two olive trees, one quite large banyan and several others that we do not see at home. Flowers are in profusion, aome of the finest orchids, rare lilies, ferns as tall as the top of our porch at home, bnt none so sweet to me

onr rose or

the old fashioned pink. The animals they have for heavy loads are the buffaloes you have seen in the menageries as rare and wonderfnl beasts. They are generally fat and sleek. The mnsk oxen plow the riceflelds and draw the carta. I have 40 come every morning. "I have two large warehouses and a paved court full of stores, and it is come and go all the time, everything from ^steam engine to a tack. I have five storekeepers, six teamsters and 40 laborers and do the clerical work for the whole boodle myself. I don't think I could get home on the 6 o'clock car by a long shot. "We are living in a house formerly occupied by the commander of the Spanish barracks. We have two carriages to take us back and forth. It is near the head of the botanical gardens, once called the finest in the world, but now in ruins. There are still some very pretty palms left and flowers without number. Bread is

40 cents a dozen, fresh beef 25 cents a pouii'V If it was not: for the commissary, wo would faro poorly. I have got so I don't care for ice would rather drink tho filtered water without it, and I know that it is better lor us."—St. Paul Pioneer Press.

While the projeot is in1 tbe eliminary state, Alderman Gunther says that the matter will probably be pushed to a successful termination. "I am not at liberty to disclose all our plans, nor the names of the gentlemen interested," Mr. Guntber said the other day. "Briefly, we intend to erect

ceurury nu \jiegligen pursued hit peculiar fad, with the result that today the collection numbers many hundreds and is valued at many thousand dollars.

The last will of Von (iiegligen was recently tiled for probate in the superior court by Georgiana von Gitgligeu and Ernest Emmrick, who are named in the will as executors. The widow and three grown children aro tho legatees. In addition to the collection of pipes, of which the value is unknown to the po titioners, the estate consists of 20 shares of the Pacific States Savings, Loan and Buildiug company, valued at $1,000, and jewelry valued at $100.

One estimate of the value of the pipes fixes it at $7,000, but another says that in the ri^ht market it would briu^ twice that sum. The collection comprises pipes of almost every kind of material and workmanship and from every country. There aro meerschaums most fantastically and exquisitely carved, some of them perfectly colored. These oomprisu the most valuable portion of the collection. Every pipe has its own history. Besides these, there are briers, blackthorns and a great many other kinds of wood pipes, some of them very handsome porcelain bowls and even clay pipes of rare design. Some of them cost large sums of money, and all were selected by an expert in such matters. What will now become of the collection is a matter of speculation, but. they should yield a small fortune to the heirs.—Isew York journal.
