ASH GROVE.

Protracted meeting still goes^on Charley Williams went to eee his best girl Sunday.

That tlax headed scribe that writes the Bad Medicine surely took some of the bitter stuff and it went to her head or she would not have given herself away so easy.

We have no doubt whatever but what Sallie Barlow keeps prosperity. I never eaw her without it. She never keeps anything else unless it is Delanej' Good for Sallie.

Some one ought to feel sorry for Frank Taylor. Rabbits have been so scarce since he got that L. C.Smith gun that he can't kill enough to keep him in tobacco. He ought to come over to Ash Grove,

Things we know—that Ida Elmore would like to have wood—that Frauk Woods carries perfumery—that Fred Lowe wants to marry—that Frank Tayler would like to have a rabbitthat Jacob Francis lost his girl.

Pay no attention to that hat Sallie that is turned up in front. Frank likes to kiss such a pretty girl as I am. He is the one that can make it smackNot like that knock-kneed, hip-jointedi absent-minded, broken-nose man.

Charley Myers, our old wood cutter who 78 years old, hid his saw and ax somewhere in the woods and can't find them. We think it is time for him to quit but he does not think so.

We will just say to the Cherry Grove scribe that if he will come down, we will put him and his bread both up to the molasses, and put molasses all over "him free of cost. We know him down at the Crossing.

We take this opportunity to notify the superindendent of the Sugar creek wooden bridge that on west side, at the north entrance, is a hole in one of the planks which some poor old blind horse might force its foot through at the cost of the Jcounty. We consider it dangerous.

This is a dry and cold spell of weather. The roads and fields are dusty. This seems to be hard weather on the whea', at least it looks like it iB leaving the ground or is going back. We belaive pasturing would be a bad thing to do as it would cause more dust for the wind to blow away from the wheat.

Dr. Foster, principal at Soap Factory, has had another battle with young America thatjs under his care and in Btraightninc up his lines it was necessary to use the lash. We hope be will come out nr.aster of his labors and that he may receive a reward equal to the improvements he hae made.

The pupils at the valley school will give an entertainment at that place on the Friday evening before Christmas.

Tom Berkshire's green house, west of here, was consumed by fire on last Sunday night. Tom thinks it was the work of an incendiary.

The correspondent at Lofland Crossing expresses my sentiments cxactly. Shake. If you ever come down here to Hog Heaven you will find ir.y latch string on the outsido. My friend, Sandy, also keeps his latch str ng on the exterior.

Rev. Elder's sermons are giving much satisfaction. Of course it is impossible to please everyone, but a majority of the members are well pleased with them. On Wednesday, after the morning services, the congregation went home with Brother Brook Thomas sdu partook of a magnificent dinner.

Last Saturday night a gang of young hoodlums 'congregated in a play house, west of the city near John Tinsley's. Ttey were carelessly handling a loaded shot gun, the muzzle being pointed toward the road. Just as Icem Biggs was passing the place ou a horse, on his way home, the gun was accidently discnarged. ,80010 of the 6hot struck the horse in the neck, producing painful but not serious wounds. It was a narrow escape for both boy and beast. These boys are bad egge, and will get what they deserve some of these days.

Last Saturday, while in town, I went to the Hoolihan & Quillen hardware store to buy a steel trap to catch a fox that has been etealing my chickens. As soon as I entered the store the clerks began swarming about me like flies around a sugar-bowl. They all wanted to wait on me at once. Tom wanted to sell me a churn, George insisted on me purchasing a pair of skates, while that smooth faced chap, (I forget his name) tried to sell me a horse-blanket for a bed-quilt. I had a notion to dash my chewing gum in hiB face. Ho took me for an unsophisticated daughter of the swamps, but soon discovered his mistake.

Edward Rose find Jacob Francis, two young and lively bachelors of Wide Awake, were hunting around here, the other day, and stopped at my cottage to get warm. They looked somewhat fatigued, so I gave them a lunch of cold coon meat and raw ouions. Onions, you know, are very strengthening—for the breath. Ed seemed backward and bashful, but Jake—la me, he's got more gall than a brass monkey. He wanted to call on me next Sunday night and take me up to the Bad Medicine church. I told him I did not care to go as the girls up that way were all jealous of me. I informed him, however, that he might spend the evening at my bouse, providing Ellis'Gray didn't call. He said that would cut no figure with him he could stay as long as Mr. Gray, and if his rival insisted on staying, they would draw straws to see who should remain he would come if it were "raining pitch forks and negro babies." I had supposed that all the bachelors in Wide Awake were old dried up hypochondriacs, but I find out different. Jake, you are all rigt
