NOT THE SENTIMENT. While tie district is over 2.COO republican, still Cheadle was defeated lay less than 300 votes two years ago. He will be the nominee this fall, and there is no doubt now of his winning by a handsome majority. He has already been nominated by the populist district convention, and the democrats will name him at their convention soon to be held at Frankfort.
The above special sent to the Indianapolis Sentinel last week by an individual connected with a newspaper in this city, and who was expecting two years ago through the influence of Cheadle a job in the event of Mr, Bryan's election, does not represent the sentiment, belief nor wish of manv scores of democrats In this and adjoining counties. Attempts this year to "mould sentiment'" won't work. Efforts to bulldoze men who all their lives have voted for and sustained democrats into the Bupport of any eoreheaded republican, or silver republican, or populist probably, cannot be repeated this year. Investigation in a quiet way will re7eal thiB fact to any diligent inquirer. The individual nominate? i-v the populists for congress may rero.iji as such nominee, we have not heard of his yet declining it, but it is immaterial. He will not get the universal support of democrats, and cannot be elected. It matters not how many disappointed republicans may be sore at the tom-tit Dominated by that party here the other day in any event neither they nor democrats in general will give their support to another man equalfy a9 repulsive.
NO "PUFFS.
Quite a number of neatly worded rS' quests from candidates before the democratic State convention have been received at this office soliciting friendly notices for them. If these candidates can give $5 or 810 to the State Sentinel for announcing their names we are unable to see why it would not be the correct thing to similarly serve the country press through the State likewi.e, and the REVIEW begs leav«* to decline publishing gratuitous notices for any State candidate.
THE yellow journals, those newspapers that have published lie after lie, sensation after sensation, regarding the present Spanish war, with no reason for it only solely that they could dispose of their publications, should best be repaid by the loss of public confidence and a rapid decline of their business. Newspapers living on falsehood and sensation should be short lived, I
PERFECT WORK.
How perfect was the work ot the republican olitical machine can be seen in the nomination ol' Landis for Co»gress last ween. All the postmasters, their deputies and other appointees to position who had secured their jobs through Lacdie, were at work months ago with the single object in view of securing his re-nomination. Ttiis is the price they pay for fealty to tnm. So long as he can control such people no other republican, however worthy no might be, could stand the leaM show for a nomination. That is just the way the machine runs. It was wound up this year strictly for Landis, and thn punny efforts of Dr. Tucker and one or two other old time republicans who dtsired the nomination were subjects of ridicule. If they want to defeat Landis thev must secure a machins of equal or greater capacity than that now managed by Landis."There are without question vast numbers of republicans in the district who would prefer some other man for Congress than Landis. They consider him a poor stick for a national law maker. There is, it would seem, little of him aside from a certain style of spread eagle oratory, which in this practical age counts for little. To consider him in the same class with such men as Godlove S. Orth, Jos. E. McDonald, Henry S. Lane and other notable men in former years from this district who represented the people in Congress, would indicate the heighth of sarcasm. With the eentirteut already in healthy growth against him, the district although gerrymandered for republican success, it would {seem that if the democracy nominate a representative man he can defeat Landis.
There is little in him to create enthusiasm or attach strong political friendship. lie is the product of the machine, not of the unanimous choice of his parts, aud as such his political life cannot be of great duration.
WHAT particular advantage there would be in having another ward added to the city and thus adding additional expense to the city has not yet be»n made manifest by its advocates. He is the best councilman and best friend of the tax payers who will aim at the very earliest opportunity to begin a reduction of the debt that has been piled upon us. It is this style of movement that is most demanded and will be the most popular.
HAVENS, the Terre Haute renegade democrat, who left the pirty some years ago, and has been trying to get the republicans to give him an office has at last succeeded. He has been appointed a paymaster in the army. He held down some petty position during the World's Fairjat Chicago, but has been out of a job since.
WHEN it comes to strategy Cervera, the Spanish admiral, seems to possess as much or more than our strategy board at Washington .City. He has kept the board for near a month past guessing where he is, and has shown skill in being able to avoid an engagement—until he is readv.
GEN. WALLACE is not going south as a correspondent for a New York paper, as stated heretofore, but has returned home several days since to this city. The statement, however, has been a good free advertisement to the General and to that extent he is doubtless quitq grateful,

"Is She Your Daughter?"
Have you a young daughter just at the age when young girls most need a mother's loving care? Is she physically strong and well or does she suffer from any weakness of the delicate organism which most intimately concerns her womanhood
If so, you understand her suffering better than anyone else can. You know that such troubles, unless remedied, mean a life of incapacity and wretchedness for her. You appreciate her reluctance to undergo physician's "examinations" andj "treatments and you will be glad of assurance from the most eminent medical authorities in this country that in nineteen cases out of twenty these mortifying methods are absolutely unnecessary.
Any mother who will write about her daughters case, to Dr. R. V. Pierce, chief consulting physician of the Invalids' Hotel and Surgical Institute, of Buffalo, N. Y., will receive free of cost the best professional advice obtainable, and instructions whereby a complete cure may, in nearly every instance, be effected by simple, com-mon-sense home methods.
No living physician has a wider practical experience or a higher reputation in the treatment of diseases peculiar to women than Dr. Pierce. His Favorite Prescription is the only proprietary remedy ever designed by an educated authorized physician specifically to cure women's diseases. His great iooo-pai illustrated book, The People's Common Sense Medical Adviser," is of priceless value to every mother. It will be sent absolutely free on receipt of ai one-cent stamps, to pay the cost of mailing only. Address, World's Dispensary Medical Association, Buffalo, N. Y. ov, send 31 stamps for a heavy, cloth-bound copy.

Queer Press Lav In l'rance. From the New York Tribune: Owing to the existence of a peculiar law In France, wliich exacts that "any person named or referred to in any periodical publication shall have the right to reply in the next number in the same place and in the same type, providing the reply does not extend to more than twice the length of the offending article," one of the forthcoming numbers of the Revue des Deux Mondes, the most important and influential monthly review in France, will contain an article of unusual length and couched in extravagant language, which will appear in its pages despite the opposition of the editor. It will bear the signature of a dramatic author who, infuriated by the nature of the criticism passed by the Revue on one of his plays, has invoked his rights under article 13 »f the press laws, rights which were vain contested by the editor.
I.!ght From Sawdust.
A town in Canada is partially lighted by gas made from sawdust. The sawdust is charged in retorts which are heated by a wood fire, the gas from the retorts passing into a series of coils and thence into the purifiers, which are similar to those used for coal gas. Lime is the principal purifying agent employed. The works turn out daily 640 cubic meters of gas, for the production of which about two tons of sawdust are required. A man and boy furnish all the labor needed at the works. The gas in an ordinary burner gives an illumination of about eighteen candle-power. The brat quality comes from resinous woods.—Tit-Bits.
In Reply to a Correspondent. How can I get an article lu your japer?" asked a eoiTespondent o/ western journal. "It all depends on the article yon ivant to get into our paper," replletf 'ne editor: "if the article is small 1B bulk, like a hairbrush or a tea eaddy spread the paper out upon the floor! and placing tEe fLrticJ^ in the center, wrap it up by carefully folding th« edges over It, and tie with a string. This will keep the article from slipping out of the paper. If, on the othar hand, the article is an English tub or clothes-hone, 70a would better not try It at til."—Harper's Baswr,
Fralt Flavors From Ltafti, Monsieur Jacquemin, a French pharmacist, has invented a process by which, he says, he can form, from the leaves of various fruit bearing trees and shrubs, the flowers that are characteristic of the fruits themselves. From apple tree leaves, crushed and fermented, he obtains a liquid possessing the fragrance and taste of apples, and from vine leaves a beverage resembling wine. His theory is that the peculiar flavor of apples, pears, grapes and berries is prepared in, and derived h*om. the leaves of the plant.
