Death of Wesley Fouts. Wesley Fouts died at bis home on west Pike street, Monday evening, at the age of 56 years from a complication of diseases. The deceased was born and spent the greater portion of his life near Wmgate. For some years he conducted a dry goods store in Waynetown. Disposing of this store he removed to Crawfordsville and has since made this city hie home. Mr. Fouts was a man of splendid character, honorable and up right and held in highest esteem. He served his country in the civil war in 116th Ind. Volunteers. The funeral occurred from the family home Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock, Rev. W. II

W. G. Herron, of Allerton, called on the News yesterday on return from a business trip from Indiana. While there he visited the thrifty town of Linden, ten miles north of Crawfords viile in Montgomery county, where him self, sons, eons Edwin and Clyde, think some of entering the banking business Should they do so they wilt succeed, as they are men of character, experience and means.—Danville News.

Brock way's Spoke Factory Suffers a

Severe Loss.

Fire Wednesday aftemion at Greencastle caused a loss ranging from 512,000 to $14,000 in Alvah Brockway's spoke factory. The warehouse of the factory plant, located near the Monon railway tracks in the western edge of the city was entirely destroyed. It contained sixteen car loads of wagon spokes, seasoned and finished out of the best of oak timber most of it several years old. The entire lot had been sold only the day before the tire by Mr. Brock way to Chicago, Lansing, Mich and Lafayette parties at good prices.. Then was about 68,000 insurance on stock. The main building was saved with difficulty, a heavy wind increasing the work of the firemen.

First Mortgagees Win.

Tho case of Samuel Fisher vs. the first mortgagees of the Crawfordsville Star, after occupying the attention of the circuit court all day Monday, came to an abrupt end Tuesday morning.

The plaintiff paid the cost of the suit, allowed the first ortgagees to take a first judgment and himself taking a second judgment. The first mortgagees now have possession of the office and turned it over to J. M. Keeney, jr., who will operate it.

A Good Firm.

In another column of this paper will be found the advertisement of Webster & Sergent, abstracters. These two gen tlemen, by years of experience, are par. ticularly well fitted for the work they solicit. Mr. Webster has been connected with the recorder's office while Mr Sergent has grown old in the abstract business.

Company Drilling.

Company is now drilling every evening at the Y. M. C. A. Armory an »1 the maneuvers are watched by large crowds of spectators. Capt. Wert is bringing the boys up to a fine point so that when the call for volunteers is made, which is hourly expected, he will head a company of which he may well feel proud.

Ripley's New School House. Trustee Giikey this week awarded the contract for the erection of the new brick school house at Alamo to Peter FiBhero, of that place. The contract price is $4,895. When completed Alamo will have one of the prettiest and moBt complete school houses in the county.

Tender Their Services.

The local commandery of the P. O. Sof A., has tendered its services to the government in case of war with Spain. This is a splend'dly drilled body under the command of Capt. Will Goltra. It is said that many of the camp members will also volunteer when a call for the same is issued.

Post Master General Gary has issued an order to the effect that all postoffice employees who desire to go to war may do so and their positions will be held open for them on their return....
