SOME POINTED FACTS. A long article in the Daily Journal Over the head of "Amicus," last week contains many pertin ant facts relating to Wabash College management and its anti coeducation tenets. From it we make the following extract:
Here is a college with every facility (or educating a thousand students, but the thousaud students do not come. Why? Bccause uo uue ever tpewks a goo word lor it. Ii is almost universally regarded as an old fogy institution whose ardor and enthusitaj are spent on tbe base bail grounds instead of in the acquirement of useful knowledge, and the pursuit of things worthy of great minds. It 18 for the tr.»6tees of Wabash LMIege to determine wbr»tner the institution shall livoordie. Live it cannot under its present management. Young laui who would be an honor to it, are excluded from its recitation roonip, and young men 'ho have an ambition for learniug a language higher that ttiat of basH ball grounds, wtiere one iiears noihiug but the slang or base ball toughs, seek an education 'n other institutions Hnd woo can blame them? Thti people of Montgomery county are eubd'antial:y unanimous in the belief that nothing but tbe opening of th*j doors of the college to the young ladies of the country cun save this great institution fro decay and death.
When an educational institution' with numerous bequests and endowments in the epjcts of 40 years only makes an increase in attendance of from 15 to 20 per cent, it is plain evidence that there is something radically wron-^ and deficient in its management an 1 that there is a pressing necessity for a radical change. The catalogues of 1857 aod '53 of Wabash college show an attendance of students of from 180 to 195. The catalogue of ISI'6 and '97 Ehow about 200 or 225 in attendance of students. DeI'auw. 1'urdue and Bloomington have all gained 100 per cent, or more in students within 12 or 15 years past while Wabash show In tie or no increase with that period. The people living herein this coucf» and city, whether they be Presbvterians. Methodists, Baptists or not church members, don't like to see euch old foggy behind the age. tiulj head management as they have witnessed for years in this institution and would be glad to btar of the lesignation of professors, trustees and all, if it would be tbe means of putting new life &Dd energy into it by trie change. In any svent could it be much worse than at present? This is just about the correct local fee-ling now. Let it adopt education now, and the benefit of it would b.* noticed at once. It won't do to say that would cost $100,000 to fit up the institution for the reception of female pupils. The public don't believ* any such stuff but believe it can badopted at once.
COFFIN A FREE MAN. Frai'k Coffin, who with Haugbey, was convicted of wrecking a national bank at Indianapolis four years ago, and after numerous delays of two or three years was landed in the penitentiary on an eight years' sentence, was reprieved last week alter serving only about a year of time. President McKinlej issued threpri ve. The whole thing to one not direct lntereBtel looks like a parodv, a burlesque on justice. The two prosecutors, Burke and Kern, even signed tbe petition asking that he be pardoned. They failed see anything wrong in the original sentence until now. It appears that UotHu is a high toned gentleman, had rich friends at the court at Washington City and they finally
Weak Lungs
Hot*weather won't cure weak lungs. You may feel better because out of doors more, but the trouble is still there. Don't stop taking your
Scott's Emulsion
because the weather happens to be warm. If you have a weak throat, a slight hacking cough, or some .trouble with the bronchial tubes, summer is the best time to get rid of it. If you are losing flesh there is all the more need of attention. Weakness about the chest and thinness should never go together. One greatly increases the danger of the other. Heal the throat, cure the cough, and strengthen the whole system now. Keep taking Scott's Emulsion all summer.

brought their efforts to a auccess by getting McKinley to pardon Coffin. If it had been some poor un'ortunate devil he would no doubt have remained behind the prisoa bars the full length of time the sentence said he should. It begins to seem that there is one court for the rich and auotber for thej poor in this country. There may be a JFrench revolution in this country some da}, and there may b-.» m.my living now who will see it. Actiono similar to this Coffin business, the veoality ot' many of the judges of the land, and the general contempt for justice tend to discontent, anarchy and blood shea, and those who sow the wind may reap the whirlwind.
WANT «T ABOLISHED. Sj hungry have large numbers' of republicans over tho country become at their failure to secure office under the McKirley administration through the operation of the civil service law, that they have set a movement, on foot to have it abolished, av-d at the next regular session of man-SB will am ^to bring it about. It is to be regretted if this highly useful and beneficial law should be taken fiom the statute of the land at the dictation of political dead ats. Civil service if honestly and correctly enforced is for the benefit of the people—not the politicians. It means strictly business methods in any governmental position, not a reward of spoils. A business man, a merchant for instance, will uot discharge a faithful, honest, competent clerk to give room to one entiri ly new and unskilled, and neither should the government. Offices should be looked upon as places of responsibility, not as the reward for political work. It is to be hoped that these guerilla hunting office eeekers will be foiled and that the civil service law will stand.
DEBS' SENTIMENTS.
Eugene Debs, the labor leader, may utter some sentiments that are akin to anarkisin, yet from the actions of many two-by-four judges ol'courts of the country his sentiments may become very popular. These petty tyrants now enjoin a man almost from thinking, feeling, or talking, if they happen to antagonize some capitalist or wealthy corporation. The latter class some how or other seem never to be injoined do whtt they will.
THE COST.
The cost in salaries to truant officers who go around and find what children in the State cannot or will not attend school is estimated to amount per per year to the sum ot' 8175,0C0. This tru ant law it should be remembered is an net ot the last republican legislature.

Beauty la the Shrine of Men's Wurthipt and Women Vie With Each Other to Hake Themtelww Attractive.
The remark, "She dresses elegantly," is a very common one in this age ol wealth and progress.
Women vie with each other in making themselves attractive, for men admire a stylishly dressed woman.
The fac-
Good clothes add to the charms of woman in pevfect health, but are ill-befitting those who through ignorance or carelessness have suffered the inroads fe male diseases, to stamp them as physical wrecks. It is unfortunate, but true, that some physicians allow women to suffer needlessly, because man can
only work from theory, and at best only patch up, without removing the £ause. Proof is abundant that Lydia E. Pinkham's Vegetable Compound removes the cause, gives strength to the weakened organs, vigorous health to the system, and therefore beauty to the face and form.

Three months ago, I wrote you a letter describing my troubles, which were inflammation of the womb and bladder. I had not seen a well day rince the birth of my second child, 16 years ago. 1 had spent hundreds of dollars for doctors and medicines.
Such pains as I endured. My back ached,
my
feet and limbs were swollen,
and it was almost impossible for mi to stand I couki not walk any distance. 1 received your answer to my letter, and followed closely all your advice, and I have been uoing Lydia E. Piukham's Compound for three months. Now I can work all da^ without pain. I have recommended the Compound to man^ of my friends, and gladly recommend it to all women in any way Afflicted with feinalo troubles."—Lydia
