A MATTER OF SPOILS ONLY.
Mr. Spencer, pension.ageut for Indiana, has liefcn removed from his job within a few days past, to make room for Mr. Leighty, a hungry republican who has been standing impatiently at ths uiiicial 6-taVl awaiting the feed prom iaed him. The friends of Spt-ncer eeern to -luck" considerably over his removal until his four years tt-rui wa6 completed in the same mauner probably as the friends of the man preoeeding Spencer did. Now businosB will go on probably if neither Spencer nor Leighty had evor been remembered with official favors, and it doubtless would have been transacted fully as well. Both men are probably born spoilsmen, and are in ottiee strictly for the money that is in it regardless of which banner, democrat or republican, they sail under. Therefore what matters it in particular who has the positions of profit,. Men o'tec boast of fealty to party, yet thousands of them do so, not tnat they have any lised convictions, but for the personal party favors they may ultimately s-scure. They are strong McKinley men we are given to understand and tallr lou:Jly in his favor, but at the bottom of their heart don't care a for him or his principles only so far as it may in the future aid them. It was the same with hundreds who boasted »t' their strong free silver "convictions"— thej expected official jobs of Bryan had he woo. It ia spoils, spoils, that animate those loudest mouthed in campaign times and there is no principle in it to them. McKinley gives the offices, JLaodis gives the offices and "Hurrah for McKinley and Landie!'" in consequence. It is somewhat remarkable in an intelligont country like ours that there is so much of this man worship, where offices are in sight, and the ani. mus of the whole thing is so plain, Tnis time serving, to the man not looking nor wanting office, is nauseating. Every four years the same old thing is repeated, and the spoilsmen are foremost in the contest. The public at larpe not office wanters are lrtle interested in matters relating to Spencer and Leighty.
WANT PRICES REDUCED. Tbe heating and cooking fuel furnished to Peru is by the DeitricK syndicate, the same that owns the plant in this ci'y. The syndicate controls a dozen or more plants in Indiana, and is making piles of money off of its investments in Indiana. At Peru their contract soon expires and the citizens demand a reduction in the price u!' natural ga6 of 33 per cent. They should have it. but will they get it? Not if the syndicate can prevent it. The citizens threaten the construction ot a new plant. It should rot end in threats. The gas furnishing business is a strong monopoly. The synuioate,.it' its profits could be learned, probably make 33 per cent, at least on its capital. This entirely loo much. The outside public will be interested in learning of Peru's Slice s? in this matter.

Keep Up Your Scott's Emulsion in Summer-time
«^^What are your resources for the summer? Have you an abundance ofirealth stowed away for the long, hot, depleting days, or does summer find you low in vitality, run down, losing flesh, and weak? Scott's Emulsion of Cod-!iver Oil will give you the proper reserve force, because it builds up the system on a solid foundation. A tonic may stimulate Scott's Emulsion not only "boosts," it sustains.
It is a wise precaution always to have at least a small bottle of Scott's Emulsion in the house. Unopened, it will keep iadefiaitety. Tightly corked, after using, kept in a cool place, it will remain sweet for weeks.

Editor Journal:—I would suggest that the Journal publish clippings fronv the republican papers on the present reign of "prosperity owing to dollar wheat." Some of us want this collec tion to read to the army of people who will wait around the free soup house the coming winter. This rise in wheat is in epite of, not because of republican rule. The Almighty has checkmated tbeir gold standard oppression by the wheat famine over the world. Were it not for the gold standard for money wheat would be S1.50 per bushel. It is worthy of note that while the present rise in wheat brings ov6r 86,000,000— republican estimate—into the pockets of mortgage holders, from the farmers, the tariff legislated by the Dingleyibill into the pockets of the sugar trust takes out of the p.ople, on a one cent rise on sugar, over 88,000,000 a year.
Wh^re is the prosperity? Only for the money loaners and trusts, The people are ton intelligent to permit the present prosperity dust to till their eyes. The republican party, with its corporations, government by injunction aud commission and gold standard must go.

QRIEF LITERATURE.
It writers of extended obituary notices, ana composers of resolutions of condolence, were less conceited and knew what dull, lifeless and prosaic matter their work is, and how little it interested the majority of readers of newspapers, they would greatly abreviatc their work, and most times omit the resolution that "they be published in the newspapers of the county.'1 Ir is somewhat encouraging to note that the fashion ot advertising one's grief and sorrow is becoming to be considered as useless and unnecessary, and that newspapers are charging advertising rates for all such contributions.
DESIRE HANNA'S DEFEAT.
Even republicans occasionally become disgusted with their leaders and seek to turn them down. The decent element of the party in Ohio begin to con demn the ways and means of Mark Hann« and many of them trust be will be defeated for U. S. Senator, which he is aiming to secure by having a majority of the State legislature elected re publicau. If the better element of the party have any voice or influence it will defeat him and place a decent maB in the place.

Bwatj Is the Shrine of men's Worships anil Women Vie With Each Other to Make Theinielvr* Attractive.
The remark, "Si^e dresses elegantly," is a very common cne in this age of wealth and progress.
Women vio with each other in maleeg themselves attractive, for men adinire a stylishly dressed woman.
Good clothes add to the charms of the woman in perfect health, but are ill-befitting those who through ignorance or carelessness have suffered the inroads of female disease* to stamp them as physical wrecks. It is unfortunate, but true, that some physicians allow women to suffer needlessly, because man can
only work from theory, and at best only patch up, without removing the cause. Proof is abundant that Lydia E. Pinkham's Vegetable Compound removes the cause, gives strength to the weakened organs, vigorous health to ttie system, and therefore beauty to the face and form.
Mrs. Pinkhasn, Lynn, Mass., gladly answers, free of charge all letters. Here is one of the results
Three months ago, I wrote you a letter describing my troubles, which were inflammation of tho womb and Gladder. I had not seen a •well day »ince the birth of my second child, 16 years ago. 1 had spent hundreds at dollars for doctors and medicines.
Such pains as I endured. My back ached, my feet and limbs were swollen, and it was almost impossible for m« to stand I couM not walk any distance. 1 received your unsvver to my letter, and followed closely all your advice, and I have been uoing Lydia E. Pinkham's Compound for three months. Now I can work all day without pain. I have recommended the Compound to TOany of my friends, and gladly recomtnen.d it to all women in any way afflicted with femalo troubles."—LYDIA

Should keep themselves healthy and especial care should be given to tnis matter at this time. Health depends upon pur\ rich.blood, for when the blood is impure and impoverished diseases of various kinds are almost certain to result. The one true blood purilier is Hood's Sarsaparilla. By its power to purify and vitalize the blood it has proved itself to be the safeguard of health, and the record of remarkable cures effected proves that it has wonderful power over disease. It actually and permanently cures when all other preparations fail to do any good whatever.
