THE DIFFERENCE.

We have a large class of voters in the United States who favor knocking the gold prop from under the American dolliir ami iVlexicunizini» it. Had they succeeded the American silver dollar to-d-«v would have been worth about' 40 cents —Journal.

L-\r over tive yrars few countries in the v. (n I hh.ve improved more rapidly than MHXU:". WUUIII that tune many llitl -s nf railwny have been constructed, factories have been opened l'or the manultacture of cotton and woolen good*, mines developed and many other internal -Improvements constructed. The country 19 prospering as never before Silver circulates there and in quantities to .• uit the demands of t:ade and b')9inest% The gold uugs do not dictate in that government. For tive years past fewer civilized countries have suffered more from business stagnation thiin this. No great lines of railways have been projactefl, thousands upon thousands if business failures have occurred. anil business of every kiud has sunk to the lowest ebb. Gold bug theories control, the government finances have been under the control of Wall street ideas and few busintsses within that time havo prospered. Mexico favors bimetalism and prospers, the United States favors monouietalism and business continues duli and almost lifoless. You see the difference between a bimetalie government aud one manipulated by gold bugs.

WILL THEY SELL?

The usual greediness of men can no where lie better shown than in the wheat market which for some weeks has been the leading commercial article for Iraffic and discussion through the coururv. Last week it reached 81 per bushel. Thits is a good price for it, a high price in fact, and the wheat raiser receiving it is making money. It is six or eight yeais since wheat commanded such ligures. Large numbers of producers of wheat said when it reached 31 per bushel they would sell. It has done so, and now they are holding it for a further rise to 81.10, 81.25 and even some Buy it will reach $l.r)0 per btrhel. It is very questionable if it ascends to the price they hope and anticipate it will and if in a few weeks they are coralied to take 7i cents and 80 cent^, they should blame no one for their excessive cupidity and greediness. The moral is when you get a good paying price for anything sell, and don't wait for two good prices which rarely come.

COAL HINERS STR: E.

From day to day for six or eight weeks daily reports of the coal minera strike has been furnished to the public through the papprs until there has been a6uifeit. of it, and the matter has become tiresome to nl persons i.ot directly interested, in fact the public think there are other interests and wish the s'riku w:is over aud that operators and miners would adjust the differences and remain quiet for the next two jears to tue. The strike will terminate, we :.beli-ve, just as niue-teuths of s-uch affa rs do in the miners going back to

Wmk nt their old w-tgvs. They will gain not hi rg, and In out the amount of money Ujhv could have earned had no s'like have heen iuauit urated Stiike*. rHI"lv p'ty arnl especially are thej g"ner-l'y a lot- *o those, who hope -to hunetittt liy them.

summer as in winter. Unlike the plain oil it is* palatable, and the hypophosphites that are in it aid in digestion and at the same time tone up the system.

For sickly, delicate children, and for those whose lungs are affected, it is a mistake to leave it off in the summer months. The dose may be reduced if necessary.

We recommend the small size especially for summer use, and for children, where a smaller dose is required. It should be kept in a cool place after it is once opened.

DEBT INCREASING, a

From the statement issued

by

the

officials of the treasury department at Washington City, an increase of the government debt to the amount of 87,000,000 is shown. We were not going to have anv of this increased debt after the repui'licans took the reins of gov ernment in their hands, their blowers and strikers said. The democrats, they avowed, did not know how to manage money matters they asserted, and so soon as republicans were installed a different 6tate of affairs wo„ld be manifested. But the "presto" has not come around yet. The people see no difference between the Cleveland boom and McKinlcy prosperity. Both are damned frauds and the clap-trap and balderdash of scheming politicians. The money managers of the MeKnley administration fail as yet to show any reduction in the publ debt and will fol low no doubt on ttie Wall street I ues of their predrcessort. I'aiung into account tho stealing propensities of the averag3 republican politician the public need not expect any appreciable reduction of the public debt during the term of the McKinley administration. They need the money in their business and can't spare it to pay off any incumbrances. The money iB wanted for party success and not for popular obligations.

THE Wabash Tribune has made an admission that exposes the danger and sham of protection. It says: "Protection is purely socialistic. Its purpose is to operate on individual choices so as to influence private enterprise and the investment of capital as to secure the building up, with the country concerned, of certain branches of production which otherwise would not be carried on. With this object in view, government begins by preventing the citizen from buying where he can buy the cheapest, it compels him to pay ten, twenty or fifty per cent, in advance, it may be upon the priceB at which he could otherwise purchase, it even assumes the right to make existing industries support the industries which are thus to be called into being.-'

A PROSPERITY EXAMPLE.

Ihe Banner newspaper establishment at Greencastle was placed in the hands of a receiver last week. The publisher for many months past has dilated on the beauties of the gold standard system ol financial management and the certain appearanc9of prosperity just so Boon as republican methods prevail. At the bottom of his heart new, no doubt, ho thinks such prosperity. A very little of it goes a long distance.

THE trustees of Boone county have all complied with the law requiring the put) lication df their annual reports, also those of Fountain county. In Montgomery county they do not do that way. They evade the law, and the tax payers of the townships know little or nothing how the money has been spent or what it was used for.

PROVIDENCE, not AicKinleyisni, nor Dingleyistc, will bring the prosperity which seems gradually to be sheuuing its welcome light upon the people. Good crops much more than republican legislation is what does the business.

PROSPERITY will undoubtedly arri.-e in Ohio now ere long1. 11 huna with his barrel will soon begin to operate for election purposes.
