THE D1NQLEY BILL.

For four or Hvo months now thits republican congress has been working on what is termed tbe "Dingtey tariff bill," «nd it has not yet. completed it nor is it liUfly to very Boon. This is the bill thit the republicans were going to briu^ around priiRpprity with, were goinir to set the mills going and furnish work for thuusand.-" of idle men, and irBUtrurati' good times. The bill as originally proposed ni'.il as eine^ aiuenrlixl, is said to be very partial in its provisions to certain interests, favors tuany trusts and corporations, and is proba bly aimed to pay back many of those who advanced money to secure McKinleys electiod. It is probably about such a creation as would be expected from tho average republican statesman, 'and its defects after it has become a law will become so apparent that in a tew ahort years a new law will have to be enacted to take i*s place. Tbe

American people are tired and disgusted in being taxed to keep up a few private interests, trusts or corporations and will continue to rebel against it. It Beems impossible to enact a just and equitable tariff law. The money of the trusts seems much more potent than the will of the people. The Dingley tariff bill, as heretofore reported, will* not be satisfactory to the toilers, the consumers, the tax payers.

B1HETALISM WILL YET TRIUHPH. Every day of business emphacises the truth of the utterances of Eon. W. J. Bryan on the financial question still agitating the country, and every day satistiss them of their correctness. To say that there is any noticeable increase of business and fading away of the financial gloom that bad settled over the country since the election of McKinley six months ago, is false, as is evident to everybody. The gold btandard business has not restored confidence in any perceptible measure. Bu iness in most lines remains dull and unsettled, banks anil buHiness houses con"lirjuo to lopple over, money is as scarce mow as twelve months ago, and loans almost aa difficult to make uow as then

Were the election to day, after the ob .servation of matters for the past six months, Bryan would receive a majority of the votes. The republicans with their Dingley tariff bill, and their international currency scheme, fail to de--ceivo the people any longer. The people realize that the election was a victory only for the mouied interests arid tho vast armv of place hunters of the republican party, ani Chat there was little in it for the producing and laboring interests of the country. Bitnetulism will yet triumph, but uutii then we see little ahead to encourage business men.

Poor Blood

When a horse is poor in flesh, anew harness won't give him strength. If a house is cold new furniture won't warm it. If your strength is easily exhausted' work a burden nerves weak digestion poor muscles soft if you are pale and worn out, the trouble is with the blood. It is not so much IMPURE blood as POOR blood. Pills won't make this blood rich nor will bitters, nor iron tonics, any more than anew harness will give strength to the horse, or new furniture will make a house warm. For poor blood you want something that will make rich blood. SCOTT'S EMULSION of Cod-liver Oil with Hypophosphites is the best remedy in the world for enriching the blood.

CLEVELAND'S SPEECH. A dinner was given in New York City one day last week by the "Reform Club," at which gold democrats and admirers of es-l'resident t-leveland only were participants. Cleveland ihade a speech. It consisted meiely of a reiteration of former sentiments expressed by him on national affairs. It iB by some asserted that the speech was really a bid for the nomination for President in 1900. We hardly believe this. Notwithstanding the conceit and egotism that envelopes Cleveland we believe that he has 6enee enough to know that he baa had his day, that hie views on financial matters] are coutrary to those of nine-tenths of the democracy of the went, that he is unpopular with most of its voters, will so remain, and that he would not under any circumstances over again receive a ma jjrity of the voters of the American people. Cleveland may be wise bayoinl hisdttyanil geueratniii, but to-d-iy is emiueutly tmpiul with he party that made him wna' lie is. His fnenos may lab'r ever so much for his future political welfare but it will do no good. The democracy of this country have no use for him, and under no situation would agan favor him.

REDUCE SALARIES.

Agitation during the last General Assembly and since then over the educational State institutions, the State board of education and their particular friends, has called the public attention to the wide swath these people have been cutting for some years in educational matters and management, and it is quite probable that in the future their strength and influence will be curbed to a great extent. Our school system and management have become top heavy, expensive and dictatorial to a superlative degree. The legislature can in no way begin better than to cut down the expenses of all ihe officials having iv.itrol of the State educational Institutions and likewise county superintendents. Salaries could be reduced from 20 to 30 per cent, without injury to the cause of education, and beof benefit- to the people.

KENTUCKY'S SENATOR. Last week the republican majority in the Kentucky legislature succeeded after a long struggle of months duration, in electing W. J. Deboo U. S. Senator. Hunter who was rpominent wa? knocked out by Bradley, the present republican Governor of that State through the influence he exerted among the legislators. The contest has been disgraceful in the extreme, a number of prominent republicans were indicted for bribery in connrr tion with tbe case and altogether the proceedings up to the election of Debo» Have been disgusting and nauseating to the resectable element of politics in Kentucky. It is very probable that tne'peoplc hy a big majority hereafter will indicate their feelings for a party, who suddenly acquiring power, have shown themselves so incompetent to properly use it.

Beware of Ointments for Catarrh that Contain MercuryMercury will surely destroy the synse of smell and completely derange the whole system when entering it through tbe mucous surfaces. In such cases there is one tried and true remedy. Lydia E. Pinkham's Vegetable Compound at once removes such troubles. The following is a sample:

My dear Mrs. Pinkham:—After writing you, and before your answer came, I was too miserable to go to the store, and so lost my position. That was five weeks ago. I am now back again in my old place, and never felt so well in all my life. The bear-ing-down pains and whites have left me, and I am not a bit nervous or bhe. Life looks brighter to me. I dori't get tired, my temper is real sweet, and I could scream right out sometimes for joy, Your ege table Compound is my standby.
