The ItepiiblU-nn Kit l.
In nuiiibcrs ir. line tho republican rally of Saturday last was tho largest seen here in several years. The pro. cession was something over an hour in passiug, aud judged bv tho average calculation of timo horses spend in walking in a straight line, may havo boon six miles in length. Old residents say tho processions of both parties hero in the campaign of 18'J-l were larger. Everything we are pleased to note, passed oil' pleasantly, thero being few or tights or rows, nor pin-headed students to bother tlio speakers or create disturbances. Some of the wagons were very neatly decorated, some of tho mottos or banner inscriptions very nonsensical. At every meeting tho republicans had had for three weeks previous the party leaders had urged their followers to turn out to the rally at ('rawfordBville on the 17th. From the counties of I'arke, L^ountain and Tippecanoe delegations came to swell tho crowd, and of course this added to tho homo delega tions, made a big attendance of people. Collum, of Illinois, and Bevoridge, of Indianapolis, addressed the crowds, tho former at the fair ground. By four o'clock the people began rapidly to disperse for their homes, and soon all signs of a rally had faded.
NOTES OK THE KALI V.
The best dressed people iu any of the delegations were undoubtedly those from the vicinity of Wingate. The dresses and caps worn by the female portion from thoro were neat, tidy aud appropriate.
The fellow that blowed tho bugle on the old soldior wagon although a republican, will never vote for Liundis. He snys must emphatically, no, and ho if one of them you can beltove.
With his hands tightly gripped on the lines, sitting erect as a statue, four prancing black liorses in front of him, would Jim Insley havo swapped places with the Governor? Doubtful.
There were eight or nine bands of music in the procession, and most of the music played was very "rocky," tho exception being that of Waynetown, which has some goo I players, and if keeping togetht r, will in timo develop into a tine musical organization. As snide music as any is that of tho Cra wfordsvillo baud, all there is to commend it is its clothing.
One of the mottos said "Bryan is composed of Salt and Wat-r."' McKinley has other ingredients in his composition, 110 doubt, which it would bo impolite to mention.
It is very questionable if big ralljs count for anything in the linal result to a' j.arty considering the money exaud time employed. Doos it :ii!iko »ote for cither party? Doubtful. Graua it-alleys are tho traditions coming down from political management oO and GO years ago, and ever since then have been considered in every campaign as necessary.
The Ilnrxe SIIIHTV War. The horse shoers oi the city got into a lively competition with each other this week. The price adheared to before was SI.2o for shoeing all rouml. Saturday one smith reduced tho price to81.00, and placed a sign in front of his shop to attract those wanting work of tho kind done. Seen by another workman he at once reduced tho price to 90 cents. Others seeing the reduction followed suit until the price went down to 50 cants. Ttiey will get tired of th.it kind of competition soon.
New Hook. Carlon & Hollenbeck, of Indianapolis, have published lately a new book by Jf. J. Clodfelter. It is a work of fiction, tho scene of which is laid in the vicinity of Yellow Stone park. The title is termed "Furdd Duw." Where on earth Clodfelter got such an outlandish title for a book, no one about here seems to know, lie probably invented it.
