CALLING OUT THEIR BEST MENThe republican campaign tnar.aoere have fcei omo alarmed over the prospects of the November election. There is uo doubt of thin. The "silvei craze" is not dyint as they anticipate 1, but is daily gaining in (-trength. The tuuna^eiH of the repulilican party art nsino -vety means known to political warfare. Their money is now being placed iu many ijuaMers to buy, to bulldoze, to intimidate. They are now forcing out their strongest men to harranguo tlndr falterine followers. 1 larrison. IngerBoll, Del'ouw, Foraker, and others have been forced to come out to try to save the party from defeat. Their influence, if nothing else, the managers hope will keep the majority of the rabble of their party with them, hey are alarmed. 1 here is no doubt of thie, and aro now going through the harrowing condition of "make believe." They have 6prung every lie suggested on Bryan and it has no effect. They are UBintr every devise known to skillful politicians to keep their scattering hosts together, and yet with little benefit. Tho common people are tired of their lies and pror ises. They are no longer scared b.' their threat:-, and are determined to vole for their own individual intcres*' Harrison may appeal in most eloquent sen. tences, I ngeiHoll iniiy uso all the sarcasm at command, Foraker may waive high the bloody shirt, but theii listeners are little movod by them. Free silver, and cheaper money is what they desire, and will ha\e it it their votes tire to you for anything. In the meantime our gallant standard bearer, William
Jennings liryan, is making the greatest political canvass ever known in thiH country, and is attracting- the largest audiences that ever listened to any speaker in the world. Kverytbing points to success and serves it.
he assuredly de-
lhe iindications seem favorable for a i-.ajority of tbe votes in Indiana, Michigan and Iowa being cast for liryan. Adding to those tho States south of tho Ohio and west of tho Mississippi, all of which his friends figure will bo favorable to him, and his election is sure. Illinois, wo believe, will favor McKinloy, also Ohio and all tho eastern States, including New ork, but those are not a majority of tho electorial aud alone will not elect him.

STATE SUCCESS-
The prospects of carrying the State and county for Bryan and the democratic ticket are decidedly encouraging at this tune, aud all that democrats have to do is to continue in the light for the remaining few days as they have during the past few weeks. The poll ing of the State shows a democratic majority of from :i0,000 to 10.000, and all the lies, money and coercion, that the republicans can originate and use will not, it would seem, change the result to any great extent from this. The bolting element of the democracy will be small potatoes at the election, probably from fi,000 to 8.000 only, which will be nothing in comparison to the vast number of free silver republicans over the State that will this year vote for Brvan.
"GOLD STANDARD TICKET."
The above is the caption of the ballot to be voted by the bolting or McKinley democrats at tho election next month. The leaders, through republican urging, sought to got the word "Democratic" placed at tho head of the Palmer and Buckuer ticket, for the purposo of confu uing those desiring to vote for liryan :nd Sewoll, but it would not work. Tho c..jction commissioners could not bo bulldozed nor intimidated, and put the proper name to tho ballot that the democratic gold bugs expect to vote regardless of the wishes of these individuals.
NOT TRUE.
Every minister in Crawfnrdsville will vote for McKinley.--Journal. This is not true, 'there ait tivo or throe at least, that we know of, who will not, but expect to cast their ballots for Bryan and free silver. Minister? are just like anybody else in the matter of political predilictions, ar.d have just as strong prejudices in polities as tho rest of U3. All of them in Crawfordsville, however, notwithstanding their surroundings aro not for McKinloy and will not vote for him.

a bur6t of eloquence, Chauncoy Dopew once said that fifty tner. can control the business of tho United States, because they can control tho railroads and the money arteries. That is the condition that tho pfeople of the country want to change. They do not wish fifty men or five hundred men to have control of tho business of the country.

gent men, can create only for those uttering it feelings of pity and contempt. The tour of these cx atiny officers has not been a success. They found many old soldiers, privates too, that do not think Bryan advocates aro tramps, but expect to vote for him. It is quite probable that were it to be proposed again, that the tour of the Generals would be voted down quickly. Jt has done the McKinlev cause no good.
CHICAGO APPRAISEMENTS.
To 6ho\v how waelthy corporations and individuals escape their share of the burdens of taxation, and of winch the middle and poorer classes complain, an instance is sho.vn in Chicago, but is only one of many in that city, aud perhaps the country over. Appraisements of real estate are supposed to be made equitably so tfiat owners shall pay an equitable amount of taxes. The Auditorium building and ground on which it stands in Chicago at a fair valuation is worth .S.J.OW,UOO, The assessor for purposes of tuxationfindsit worth only about .^.'iOo.OOO. There are many other large business blocks iu that city that, have tho same ridiculous low appraisement placed on them, while the man with the $5,000 residence finds bis property as
sessed to the highest noich. Is there any wonder that dissatisfaction among the common people should prevail, that a spirit of anarchy should exist among many, that enmity toward the million aires should prevail, when eu./h open fraud, unfairness as this shown above should prevail? The assessors iu these instances probably get to handle anil possess some of the millionaire's gold, in order to make such appraisements as these.

It wiis done in the interest of avarice and gresd aud should be undone by honest men."

SUSTAINED.
The Supreme Court last week in a decision reported sustains the constitutionality of the Nicholson temperance law. 11 is in consequence hereafter the law of tho State, and dispensers of intoxicating liquors must tegulate their business in accordance with its provisions. ut'ire legislatures may modify some sections of tfie hnv, but it. stands as a whole until then.
The coercion of railway employees, factory hands and others employed by many large establishments through the country still continues, and many men wear McKinley badges who will not vote for him, jet it is pleasant to remember that the force busines ceases at the entrance to the booth where the ballots are cast.
As tho campaign draws to a close the Indianapolis News, continues that "neutral, but independent" position that always distinguished it in political years, by devoting daily two or three columns in behalf of the republican national ticket.
DK.MOCKATS. keep tip the good workDo not worry in well doing. The prospects of carrying the .State and county ticket at« excellent, but a relaxat ion at any timo until after November .'Id may result in defeat Keep at wotk.
One good thing that always happens at the close of the political year, is the blessing that consigns the drum corps to oblivion.

Fads in Medicine.
There are fads in medicine as in every thing else ana a "now thing" frequently sells for a short, time simply because it is new. But in medicine, as in nothing else, the people demand and will bo satisfied only with positive, absolute merit. The fact that Hood's Sarsaparillla has stood its ground against all competition, aud its sales have never wavored but have remained steadily at the top. demonstrates, beyond any doubt, the intrinsic virtue of this medicine. The new things have cotno and gone but Hood's Sarsaparilla rests upon the Bolid foundation of ansoluto merit and its power to euro, and its sales continue to be tho largest in the world.
