J. Carroll and all the democratic editors of the county as secretaries. After a lively speech from Foley, the committee on resolutions submitted the following resolutions, which after some slight opposition were passed:

WHEREAS, We, the democracy of Montgomery county, in convention assembled, believe that in a free government like ours, that all power rests with and is vested in the people to ba governed, and that conventions are the instrumentalities through which it is their duty, to give expression of the principles which they deem to be of vital, or controlling importance to the welfare of the of the people at large. We believe further, that party platforms should emanate from the people, and that when adopted by a political party, should be held by their representatives, when elected thereon, to be the most

B.icred

obligations, and that the willful

violation or disregard thereof is deserving of the severest condemnation, We further believe and charge that tho present financial depression, with attending low wages, and low prices of the products of labor is due to the unjust discrimination against silver, and to no other cause, and that the remedy for tho evil lies in the restoration of silver to the position it occupied in our monetary system prior to the demonetization act of 1873 which waB at tho ratio of 16 to I. Therefore be it

Resolved, That we, tho democrats of Montgomery eouncy in convention assembled, are in favor of the free and unlimited coinage of both gold and silver as primary and redemption money without discrimination against either metal to be a full legal tender for tho payment of all debts, public and private, except A government or kingdom having tho Bin»l(.' gold standard be required to pay all duties on their imports in gold, with out waiting for the action of any other nation or country.

Resolved, further, that we heartily approve of tho official acts of Hon Claude Matthews. Governor of our State, and hereby commend him to the nation at large as one worthy in every respect to hold tho highest office in the gift of the whole people.

Resolved, That wo recognizing his able and honest service for our party and roposing full faith in his democracy patriotism, integrity and ability, we declare it to be the duty of our delegation to present tho name of Hon. James M.

Seller to the democratic State convention for tho high ollice of Governor, and make every honest elTort to secure his nomination.

Resolved, That we denounce the present republican congress for its failure to offer any legislative relief of our present financial system and for its reckless appropriation of more than $600,000,000 for the current expenses of tho fiscal year ending June 30th, 1897.

The convention then proceeded to

nominate candidates for the various offices to be elected this fall. The balloting occupied nearly two hours, but a number or candidates having no opposition were chosen by acclamation.

THE HORSELESS CARRIAGE.

It Arrives Here On Monday and Is

Viewed by Hundreds-

A horseless carriage, its motive pbwnr boing electricity, and making the trip from Decatur, 111., to Indianapolis, arrived here at 1:45 Monday afternoon aud during the hour it was here was visited by several hundred people, The carriage will seat four persons comfortably, and its speed is from 10 to 12 miles per hour, lte motor or the power running it is located under the back seat. Gas from gasoline is admitted to cylinders and exploded by an electric spark. A full charge of gasoline will take the carriage 100 miles. Such modes of conveyance have been used in London, Paris and other European cities for two or three years, and doubtless will in time b3come common in this country. The carriage after running around tho streets here until near 3 o'clock, took the old dirt road for Indianapolis.

Mlill Building Electric UfilhTB7S,

Occasionally the name of our former fellow townsman, Noah J. Clodfelter, is mentioned in connection with electric railway building. Noah now resides at Marion, Grant county. The latest regarding his work is in an Anderson special which Bays:

Noah J. Clodfelter, the origniator of the scheme to connect all of the Indiana gas bolt cities by an electric railroad, says that he now is ready to put tho ruad through and that work will begin on it between June 1 and 7 and that it will be completed and in operation by Oct. 1, with cars running between Anderson and Marion. He has papers which show that he now has associated with him one of the oldest and best known railway men in the nation and a man of unlimited meanB. Only the main line between Anderson and Marion will be built this year, but it is the intention to not only connect all of the gas belt cities next year, but make one of the terminals at Indianapolis.

Car IiOadn of Stoni*.

Almost every day great loads of stone, composed of from 15 to 20 cars, pass through from the quarries at Bedford on north on the Monon. Where do they go? iB often asked. The Michigan City Dispatch the other day said "The Monon this morning turned over twentytwo car loads of Bedford stone from the southern Indiana quarry to tho Michigan Central for transportation to New i'ork Many of the handsomest residences in New York City are built of

Indiana stone, notably that erected some years ago by the lato Wm. H. Vander bilt."

Many cars are carried as far west as Denver and north to Minneapolis loaded with Bedford stono.

In There Another.

There are probably fow in thiB vicinity who are aware of the fact that very near Waynotown can be found oae of the largest if not the largest, peach orchard in the county. But such is tho fact and is location is less than a two mile drive the towu. Jap Grenard is the proud owner of this tine large collection which numbers a little more than 1,800 trees aud comprises all tho various varieties of the peach kingdom. The trees promise a largo crop of the delicious fruit this year, already being almost "loaded to the ground."—Waynetown Dispalch.
