The republicans of Crawfordsville have organized for the city campaign. The desire among many interested parties will be to see if in a city of this size where they have two votes to oue of the opposite party, they will aim to make any improvement over the class of men who are now acting as councilmen If the same men, or some of like caliber are nominated by the party, then the democracy aided by scores of conservative republicans who only ask for economy and a decent management os city affairs, will make a strong efTort to defeat thein, ai'd have every reason to believe they will succeed. Largo numbers of republicans say they have had enough and entirely too much of the Reynolds' rule in the cit\, and thvy will vote against any such candidates whoever they may be. Tho time to make their word good and their work effective will Boon be here. It i^ only a little over two months when three utw councilmen are to be chosen.

Cosl of the Keller Trial.

The Keller trial at Terre Haute cost Parke county over $4,000, and then nothing was done only to liberate the Kellors. Although Clara Shanks was killed yet the State could not prove who did it, yet Park county has to pay while they are trying it. Tho chemist's bill was $1,000 for examining the stomach of the dead girl to see if poison could bo found. The prices for such work, as well as the fees by physicians for making post mortem examinations is a matter that the State legislature will hereafter be compelled to regulate. They are generally beyond all reason, and in most instances the results ob tained amount to nothing.

He is charged with appriating the money from the collection on a note for the sale of a machine and using il himself instead of turning it in to the company. He also refused to turn over books and papers used in tho interest of the company. His bail was lixed at £200 bv a Ladoga justice, and which he was unable to furnish, and was in consequence placed in jail.

Did you over stop to think what indigestion really means? It means simply that your stomach is tired. If our legs are tired, we ride. The horse and the steam engine do tho work: Why not give your stomach a ride that is. let something else do its work. Foods can be digested outside of the body. All plants contain digestive principles which will do this. The Shaker Digestive Cordial contains digestive principles and is a prepartion designed to rest the stomach. The Shakers thomeelves have such uubounded confidence in it ihat they have placed 10 cent sample bottles on the market, and it is said that even eo small a quantity proves beneficial in a vast majority of cases. Where Moslems Are Most Numerous.

Far in advance of any other nation in tho numbor of the Moslems under its rule is Great Britain. In India alone there are about (10,000,000 Mohammedans, and thoy outnumber all the subjects of tho saltan more than two to one. Bosides, England rnles Mohammedans in other parts of her vast empire, though not many in any one place. The queen is the sovereign of many millions more Moslems than Christians.

China is believed to como next as a conntry inhabited by many followers of the prophet. The number of Mohammedans in the Chinese empire is ustimaicd all tho way from HO,000,000 to 50,000,000, and tho smallest of the guesses is moro than Turkey can match. Holland also has nearly or quite 30,000,000 Moslem subjects in her populous and rich East Indian possessions. Java has fully 25,000,000 paoplo, and nearly all of them are Mohammedans.

The Turkish empire is supposed to contain about 211,000,000 Moslems, counting the portion of Arabia in which tho authority of the sultan is not very well established and is in danger of hoing destroyed at, any time. Therefore it. is apparent that unless great error has been made in estimating tho number of Mohammedans in the Chinese empire tho sultan is only fourth among rulers of great bodies of men aud women who believe in Mohammed.

But among oilier countries which are dominated by tho Moslem clement of their population and are under the sway of a Mohammedan ruler the Turkish empire is easily first, in numbers and in power for evil.—Cleveland Leader.

Tho Danger of Silonro.

I oiico had a case (said a nuMiibpr of the bar) against a man in tho country which was as clear as daylight in niv favor, but. by tho cunning of his lawyer, lie had continued to avoid coming to trial for about two years.

At last, tho case was called, late in the term and late in a hot day, the court, and jury tired and impatient. 1 stated the facts and produced the evidence, which was all on my side.

Tho judge asked the counsel whether they wished to argue the caso, stating that he hardly thought it necessary to submit it, in so plain a matter. The lawyers agreed to submit, it without argument. Tho jury went, out and immediately returned with a verdict for the defendant.

As soon as tho court adjourned I sought tho foreman of the jury, and ask ed him how in the name of common sense they emtio to render such a verdict. "Why, you see," said ho, "we didn'tthink much of the lawyer against you, and it wasn't strange he didn't, liavo nothing to say but, squire, the fact, is wo thought you was about ono of tho smartest, lawyers in tho country, aud if you couldn't find nothing to say on your side it must be a pretty lvjird case, so wo had to go against you. "—Pearson's Weekly.

CIOHO Sltavo With a Leopard. I walked a little nearer tho edge of tho lodge to listen if I could hear anything in tho gap, as wo could not tell wliero the dogs or tho leopard had got to. I heard a slight rustle below, whether in tho bush or on tho ledge I could not toll, and thero was no time to find out, for with a rush and a bound the leopard threw himself against the kraut?., clutching at the grass roots on top with tho claws of one fore paw—tho other was broken just above tho wrist— and I could hear his hind claws scraping on tho rocks in his endeavors to scramble up. I knew that he was very close to mo. His great blood smeared paws wero within six feet, and I could see his wicked yellow eyes glaring savagely aud the saliva, red tinged,-drop-ping from the gleaming tusks.

As Nogwaja rail in with uplifted assegai I fired down into tho brute's mouth, and with a savage gasp he fell down on to the ledge below. Tho plucky Swa/.i, without waiting to seo if he was dead, jumped down on top of him and gave him a final thrust with his assegai ere life had sped.—Kirby.

"I never will forget the queer incidents and experiences I had when I first bought a typewriter and sent out in print my correspondence aud bills to my oustttmers who lived in the rustic regions about me," said a merchant from a backwoods town. "Several of my patrons dropped ine, and I was at a loss to account for their manner, which changed toward me. At last the mystery was solved. A burly young farmer drove up to the store, tied up his oxen and stalked into my office. 'Mr. Blank,' said he, 'I'd have you know that I know how to read writin, and you don't Imve to print your letters aud bills when you send them to mo. I don't propose to bo insulted in such a manner.'
