A Sufferer Cured
Every season, from the time I •was two years old, I suffered dreadfully from erysipelas, which kept growing worse until my hands were almost useless. The bones softeiled so that they would bend, and several of my fingers are now crooked from this cause. On my hand I carry large scars, which, but for

prints a half
column story from a man who a.iya 1 dpes not believe in spiritual inanifestatio a, but who eouaented attend a seance, some nights ago, along with a number of others. After they wore in the room, he says, he received messages from his brother who had been dead for 25 years, and also from his son, and that some of the things told him by the "small voicp," could n- posaiUy have boon known to the medium.. iter he was invited to communicate with any one in the spirit land—or call for them.
He was not to name the person, but to concpntrate his rnin.i on the particular individual wanted, n.l wait a few momenta. At first thi-r was a delay the medium finally said iimt she would not corni-just yet, and IK was surprised at this, for he had not i:nparted the information that the [i'-rson he wished to converse with was a woman. Presently ha heard a voice Ray, "What do you want?" He asked who was talking, and the reply was Mrs. Henshaw. The man states that he was greatly interested in the Hinshaw case, and had improved that opportunity to get communication with the dead woman. The voice then proceeded to tell him that she was murdered by two men, one of whom was short and stout, and wore a slouched hat her husband engaged in a ti^ht with the robbers, who had hitched their horses near the house, and during the ti^ht she was killed. Within two yeart. said the medium, his innocence will be fully establised, and he will be turned loose—a free man. The man seems greatly impressed by what he heard, and the News regards his utterance of sufficient importance to print them.

Buy a Farm while laud is cheap. We have a large number of Improved farms for sale. Some decided bargains.
Moses Fowler, a millionaire farmer of Lafayette, died in 1800, at the age of 64 years, leaving ]3,0C0 acres of land in Benton county, 2,000 in Tippecanoe and White counties, 900 lots in Fowler and considerable other property, the total being §2,000,000. Some years before his death Fowler made a will bequeathing his property to his children, he and hia wife having become estranged. An attempt was made to break the will in the lower court on the ground that the property had not been bequeathed in fee, and therefore gave the children only a life estate. The lower court sustained the contention that the property had been devised in fee simple, and this decision was last week sustained by the supreme court.
Some ten or twelve lawyers since Fowler's death have boen engaged on one side or the other in the litigation going on, and no doubt all will "feather their nests" well before final settlement of it is made. It perhaps affords a fitting illustration of the old saying, "Lawyers' houses are often built on the heads of fools."
The publication by THK REVIKW last week of an extensive list of names of a number of persons receiving aid from Union township was received with much satisfaction by a large number of friends. It gave the public Che first opportunity to know anything about this charity business, and there is some indignation that some have been receiving aid from the trustee who should not—who are able to earn their own bread and butter without subjecting the tax-payeis to an expense in maintaining them. Publication of this occasionally will stop it to some extent, and save some expense to the people. For the benefit of the people of other townships of the county, who may be equally interested in the charity featurd of their township trustees' office, we will publish also the names of persons, if furnished us, who are obtaining orders from the trustee.
Money from Two .Source*.
In the list of those receiving aid from this township, as published last week, were, we understand, two ex-soldiers, each of whom receive $17 per month as pensions from the government. These individuals are certainly in luck to receive money from two sources, the government and the township, and neither are yet 60 years of age. There are four or five men in this town today, over 80 years of age, who earn their daiiy bretid and butter without any assistance whatever from the government or townst ip. The matter should be investigated. If these men cannot earn their living after receiving the comfortable sum they obtain from tbe {rovernment without the aid of the township, send them to the county asylum. It looks outrageous to compel the tax-payers to help support these men.
Wlioppln' Damages.
The Lake Erie and Western Railway Company has b»en made defendant in a dam ige suit, at Lafayette, the sum claimed being very largo and tbe petition peculiar. Tbe plaintiff is Hosea B. Tullis, of Lafayette. Briefly. Mr. Tullis alleges that on February 10 last year, he wds in tbe employ of the defendant company as a brakeman. There was a collision. Tullis was thrown a considerable distance, alighting upon the the hard ground. He has ever since been an invalid. His left side and hand are para'vzed, and he alEo alleges that he is impotent. He demands that the courts give huu $50,000.
The Community 11 ni Not Seen It. ... Some cheap penny-a-linor in. his endeavor to do something, telegraphed the following to the associated press last Friday:
CRAWFORDSVILLE, Ind„ Jan. 10.—Considerable excitement has baen caused at Gravelly Bun, three miles south of this city, by the discovery of an unusually rich deposit of gold. Henry Morrison, while working on an old dam at a terminal moraine of aB old glacier on Sugar creek, found several nuggets of pure gold, one of which weiged several ounces. He brought a number of nuggets to this city tonight, As that section has always been thought to contain paying ore, it will now be worked.
The penny-a-liner does not seem to have a very good geographical knowl-, edge of places about the county, but perhaps fully as much as anything else, .contained in the above paragraph "Gravelly Run," so termed, instead of being three miles south of the city, is about eight miles north-east, and as far as any "excitement" about gold discovery out there is concerned, several persons from that locality say they have neither seen nor heard of it Instead of "that section" being "worked" it is more likely that the penny-a-liner is seeking to "work" the Associated Press.
Torn from Ills Body.
When the men were leaving Mine No. 10 of the Brazil Block Company last Saturday night. Gabriel Antione ran down the entry und jumped on the cage. He fell and his head was cauerht between the cage and shaft timbers, tearing the head from the body and dropping it to the bottom of the shaft. The trunk was dragged through a five-inch space. The unfortunate man's blood waB thrown all over his horrified companione on the cage, while the sound of crunching bones and flesh was sickening. Antione was an Italian, 28 years of age, and his family live in Italy.
Office Holding Commit.ccmen. A disgruntled republican in town calls attention to the fact that eight or nine of the republican central committeemen are office-holders or deputies, and as far as possible the Bonnell ring did not want any private citizens at all on the committee. On the committee are Nicholson,, city treasurer Tracy, city clerk Davis, sheriff John Robinson, deputy, and others. They had no use for any man, it would seem, unless he was holding an office or was looking ahead for one.
Three. Crooks Arrested Last Saturday Night. The police arrested three professional crooks by the names of Smith, Jones and Abbott, for trying to work the short change racket on several merchants but were unable to do so. They had plenty of money and the police think they were also counterfeiters, but no bad money was found upon them. After spending Sunday in jail the police drove them out of town. They said they were selling a new patent lamp,
Too Much liicycle Killing. Rev. Roundthaler, according to an Indianapolis paper, pastor of the Tabernacle Presbyterian church, of that city, has tendered bis resignation. The resignation was brought about, it was stated, through remarks made by some members of his church, at his great love for bicycle riding, the pastor being an adept with the wheel and taking long rides every day upon it. Rev. Roundthaler is father-in-law of Arther McCain, of the Journal.
The lusnrgentg Victorious. War intelligence from the island of Cuba for some days past would indicate that the insurgents have but to cortinue for a few weeks more and the liberty of their country will be won. Tbe insurgents appear to be good fighters while the Spaniards seem to be the opposite, and rarely have a decisive engagement to their advantage. The sympathy of this country is universally with tbe insurgents.
A Policeman Removed. The resignation of officer John Johnson, tbe colored policeman, of Brazil, was demanded bythe City Council on Monday morning, and Luther Mitchell, another colored man, was appointed to fill the vacancy. Johnson, who has occupied the position for over five years, is accused of purloining hay from the city building, and this was the cause of his removal, notwithstanding his denial.
Few people know that all plants contain digestive principles. They cannot absorb their fnod ui.til it is digested any more than animals can. The Mount Lebanon Shakers have learned the art of extracting and utilizing these digestive principles, and it is for this reason thnt their Shaker Digestive Cordial is meeting with such phenomenal success in the treatment of enspepeia. The Shaker Digestive Cordial not only contains food already digested, but it also contains digestive principles which aid the digestion of other focds that may be eaten with it, A single 10 cent sample bottle will be sufficient to demonstrate its value, and we suggest that every suffering dyspeptic make a trial of it.
