The Money Came Too Late.

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich., Oct. 3.—Mrs. Jane Hudson has been closo to poverty for several days past, while she waited for a pension in vain to which she was entitled. Two days ago she was sCrlckon with an Illness, largely caused through want. She received a letter from the pension department, inclosing a check for {1,000 bacfc pension money. Two hours later she passed away.

Verdict After Nine Hoar*.

KENOSHA, Wis., Oot. 8.—The juiy in the arson case returned a verdict at 18:30 a. in. They had been out nine hours. The verdict found Perrin and Bloch guilty of the charges laid against them. The found Jacobson not guilty. The most agonizing scene ensued between Mr. and Mrs. Perrin. Nearly every one in the oourtroom were moved to tears.

The damage suit of Miss Rosebaum aginst Dunkle. the Linden post master has been changed from this to Foun tain county. Tho trial will take place in November.

The pick pocket, James Wilson, who was arrested here on the day Barn urn's Bhow exhibited here for stealing, was taken to the penitentiary this week by Deputy Sheriff Brothers. His sentence was two years.

Isaac Kahn, a well known traveling man who came here often[died from an attack of flux, after being ill but a few days in Indianapolis on Friday and was buried on Sunday. He was a relative of Mrs. Max Tannenbaum.

Hon. J. II. Foster will speak in this city Monday evening on "Christian Missions from the World's Standpoint." He has been in China and Japan for several years. While here ho will be the guest of G.S. Burrows of Wabash College.

The marriage of Mr. Arthur McCain, of the Journal, to Miss Ethel Rondthaler, of Indianapolis, is announced to occur Oct. 23d. Tho reason for the building of a neat cottage residence in Whitlock Place addition ia thereby reasonably explained. Tho bride-groom to be is an excellent young man, and acquaintances will trust that he may meet with success in life.

Judge Ellison, of Anderson, is accused of assault upon Miss Dora Witt, daughter ot B. F. Witt, of Anderson, It is charged that he induced tho young lady to come to his room on the pretense of performing some labor about the premises. While in tho room tho girl claims she was assaulted. She told hor parents of the affair, and the father confronted tte author of his daughter's ruin. It was charged that Judge Ellison hushed the matter up for some time by the payment of $100 to the father of the girl victim. Judge Ellison says the charge is without foundation, and that time will bring the facte out. Ellison is a prominent member of the Order of Red Men and lectured here last winter under the management of the students of the college. Of the truth of the charge no one knows anything, it would seem, about the case.
