In recognition of his thirty-eigh:h birthday, the employes of the Elwood tinplate factory presented Superintend ent W. H. Bantield with a handsome silver service.
John O. Stone, of Chicago, one of a trio of crooks who battled desperately with the deputy sheriffs at Ft. Wayne, wounding one of of the officers severely has been sentenced to ten years' imprisonment.

Major George W. Steele, of Marion reports that at a recent meeting of the board of managers af the National soldiers' Homes, it was decided to ask for an appropriation of £75.000 for the Marion home, which will be used ip erecting three new barracks.
Twenty-eight of the sand-throwers employed by the plate-glass works at Kokomo went on strike, and the company put new boys to work. Last evening the strikers attacked the new boys, and a number of them were terribly bea-eu. Charles Dickey was badly hurt.
Daniel Kemp, seventy-five years old, a pioneer resident of Galveston, was shot and daugerouslv wounded by his son, who is a cripple. The son is twentyeight years old. and some twelve months ago both of his leg car his father, and has been released on bond.
