without bond to iiiimver to the charge of murder in the liiM degree. The trial lasted from early in iho morning until late the evening Attorney Simms of ovington, led tii- prosecution and Chas. McCabe for the defense. A corresjionilent to tin I inliauapolis Sentinel give- the following testimony: "1 opening, tlie prosecuting attorney. Daniel S ins, wove together a chain of e\ idence which was a complete surprise to the public and powerful in its conviction. Sheriff Moore told of visiting the Kelier residence twice and of taki.ig the chip:-, splinters and a pair of pants to Indianapolis for analysis. Dr. John S.

Jeis gave the result of his chemical and microscopic tests for blood, and said lie found uiamalim blood m: the pan of pants and on all the chips taken from the' lloorof the Keller house. The testim ny of A1 rs. Shanks, the mother, was start ling. She told of Mrs. Keller bringti her husband and Miss Emma Cos o.'er to the road tj proovo her charges made against Clara Shanks the evening before.

Elmer AkKvard, age 17, together with iliree other boys were in swimming at Wolf creek falls Saturday afternoon Julyij, from to o'clck. Mo said he waded all over the bottom, also diving many times, and that it was impossible for the body to have been there then.

Dr. McKey described the cuts about the head and the discoveries at the postmortem examination.

The one below on the back of the back of the head was suflicint to have caused death," said the doctor. "Or the dislocating of tho atlas and axis of the neck which wo found would have caused death just as hanging. The rigid limbs did not indicate drowning and if Clara Shauks had committed suicide there would have been a clot of blood in the right of the heart."

George P. Thomas, leader of tho citizens' committee, told tho court how tho body looked when taken out. Tho arms were in a defensivo position and very rigid, the legs were drawn up and also very rigid.

John Keller was arraigned on chargo of lieing an accessory. Several witnesses were called on both sides, but he succeeded in proving an alibi to the satisfaction of the court, and was discharged.

Sheriff Moore left bore this morning at 4 o'clock with Keller and tho two women for the Parke county jail at Rockville. where they will remain untill the calling of the circuit court in September.

Justice Penny's verdict meets public approval and it is considered beBt for the Kellers, even though the higher court finds them innocent, as they would not have been safe la6t night if acquitted by the justice. It is reported that an organized company from the north was in Annapolis last night prepared for mob violence if the Kellers had been acquitted and it is believed there would have been trouble, public sentiment having reached that pitch.

The argument of the prosecution is to show that when Clara Shanks left her home that Saturday noon. July G, she went across to the Keller home, where Mrs. Keller executed her threat to kill her, but failing to fully accomplish it was assisted by Dan and his sister. The body was then hidden away in the house until dark, when it was taken and thrown in the pool at Wolf creek falls.

Tin- Crent ami Only.

The outlook for the great Montgomery county fair from September 9 to 13, is I'i 'Rt flattering, in fact at no time in the history of the organization have tho entries in tho different cla3ses come in so rapidly, rho display of live stock will be unusually large and of a superb character in which Ohio, Indiana, Illinois Hi:d Kentucky will bo represented. The horticultural iepartment will this year be among tho most interesting and extra efforts are being put forth to take care of the display. The entries to tho speed ring are far superior in both quality and quantity than in any preceding year. All the races are being rapidly filled, and if the track record is not reduced to ".MO the management will lie disappointed. Success is bound to attei.d the "Big Fair" in September.

President—L. C. Duckies. Vice President -J. W T. McMullen.' Treasurer—George F. Keiper. Secretary --Geo: go W. Switzer,

Managers-—R. II. Kelley, W. P. McKinNev, C. Wilder. J. H, Harrison. I he financial reports show tho Association to lie gradually reducing its debts, without incurring any new ones: a coin mitte was appointed to endeavor to secure Rev. Henry Ostrom for next •years meeting: additonal cottages will le erected next year, and on the whole the outlook for the association seems to I be V'M'v bright and encouraging.

A special from Frankfort to the Cincinnati tiiiquirer contoins the following, which sounds very much like those specials from Lebanon occasionally appearing from that city, and if dated from there we would know at once how to consider it. It may have some truth about it. It reads, as follows:

Eight years ago Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Hessing, well-to-do farming people, living in Montgomery county, sixteen miles southwest of Frankfort, had a daughter born to them. Tho child grew rapidly was unusually precocious, and at five years of age developed the period of young womanhood. With evorv succeeding year she seem to age as much as tho ordinary person would in live years, until now alio is a perfectly developed minature woman. A few months ago she became ill. and then came a change in her condition. Physicians were called and their examination startled them. Tho diagnosis, showed that the girl was enciente They could not believe their own diagnosis. Friday a tinal examination was made, and there is no longer a possible doubt that the girl will become a mother in a very few weeks. The physicians iv that there is no possibility of saving the child's life.

The convict labor system, as it has been conducted heretofoae in Indiana, is not pleasant to the thoughts of tho working man. It taps at his employI ment, and there is not one of them who does not desire that convict labor be directed in some other directed in some other directions. They do, at least, demand that such changes bo made as will preclude contractors from becoming rich oil of prison labor.

Why not put them at road-building, as the Sun has before asked? Here is ni department of Indiana's welfare that has been, and is being, neglected, as everybody knows. There are dozens and hundreds of highways in the state over which passage is totally out of the question for three or four months ovuv year. Improvement is being made verv slowly and with apparently little effort to make the highways of lasting worm, Crushed store, well and scientifically applied. would give us a system of roadways that would be of untold benefit' At present the construction of roads is a tax on every voter. It is not a pleasant tax. either, for it is extremely burdensome when the usually profitless results are counted.—Indianapolis Sun.

When a person begins to grow thin there is something wrong. The waste is greater than tho supply and it is only a question of time when the end uiust come.

In nine cases out of ten the trouble is with the digestivo organs. If you can restore them to a healthy condition you will stop the waste, put on new flesh, and cause them to feel better in everyway. The food they eat will be digested and appropriated to the needs of the system, and a normal appetite will ap-' pear.

Consumption frequently follows a wasting of bodily tissue because nearly all consumptives have indigestion. Tho Shaker Digestive Cordial will restore the stomach to a healthy condition in a vast majority of cases. Get one of their books from your druggist and learn about this new and valuable remedy.
