Judge Harney has received a letter from Home contractors who employ convict labor from tho northern ponitentiary recommending tho pardon of Jauies Shepherd, w-ho robbed the Monon station while Harry Mrisseuden was in charge. Shepherd was sent up for two and a half years and counting good behavior. has served about one-third of his time. lie says he wants to reform, Judge Harney sent the letter to Jno Swink, marshal, and says if the people here want Shepherd pardoned, they should sign a petition to that effect. Mr. Swink has talked with several about the matter, and no one seems inclined to sign such a petition, so it is quite probable that Shepherd will serve his time.

A large number of the ex-soldiers of the late war are making arrangements to attend the dedication of the old Chicamauga battle lield to a park, The government beside3 several states independently have been at work grading the roads and pathways, putting up monuments, etc., for several months, and most of thiB labor will bo tiuished in time for tho dedicatory ceremonies on Sept. 10th next. Of the 1.000 or more ex-soldiers living in the county it is probable that fully 2U0 will visit Chicamauga iu September. Some of them will go a week or two iu advance, camp out and visittho places of interest at their leisure.
"Have tried others, but like Ayer's best," is the statement made over and over again by those who testify to the benefit derived from tho use of Ayer's Sarsaparilla, Disease never had a greater enemy than this powerful bloodpurifier, It makes the weak strong.

The full text of the verdict' in' the Clara Shanks murder case is: "We find death to have been caused by violence cause unknown." There is much mystery still attached to tho case, but the second inquest demonstrated that the girl had no cause for shame. There had been an attempt to blacken her character, and the contrary having been proven by tho post'mortem, the neighborhood where the tragedy occurred regard this as fully establishing the theory that cieath was caused by foul play. Frederick Shanks, father of the murdered girl, lives near Orange Corner, on the Parke-Fountain county line, and hei dead body was thrown into what is known as tho big pool at the foot of Wolf creek falls, a half mile distant from her home, The additional fact, as shown by the post-mortem, that her larnyx and lungs were free of water, shows that death was not caused by drowning. The nearest neighbor of the Shanks family is Daniel Kellar, a young married man. who lives just across tho road, and from whose place tho Shanks family carried water. There was an intimate relationship between tho families until the Gth of July, when Mrs. Daniel
Kellar made startling charges against her husband and Miss Shanks. The same afternoon Miss Shanks was missing from home, and tho next morning her brother found her body in the pool. Public sentiment is quite bitter against the Kellars, and for several days they have not lived at home.
An enormous Might of carrier pigeons was gotten up iu Paris lately. Sixty thousand birds were let loose in one morning from the neighborhood of the Eiffel toVer. o,000 of them at one signal.

False Diagnosis.
La Grippe is confounded bv many persons with a severe attack of catarrh, which in some respects resembles the former. These individual" suffer severely with pain about the forehead, eyes and ears, with soreness in throat and stoppage of tho nasal passages, and in fact, are incapacitated for work of any kind for days at a time. These are catarrhal sulferers. Ely's Cream Palm has been used with the best results iu such cases. The remedy will give instant relief.
