LITILE RIICR,
Ark., July —There ii
a possibility that the next few weeks may witness tho beginning of a strugtilo bo t-ween capital and organized labor th atwill equal anything of the kind in Iht history of the labor question in tilt southwest-. The opposing forces in theprospective struggle are the Gould svs tern of railways and its vast army of em ployes. As there have been no avowed intentions of engaging in open hostilities on the part of either side, but flashes havti been seen from the official sky and ominous rumblings have been heard in the labor world, which bet-okon the coming storm. Briefly stated, there are indications that the Gould system intends to attempt to crush out ail labor oruaniza Hons now opsratiniron its property.
First Intimation of Trouble. should this attempt be made a strike will ensue beyond a possible doubt, and should a strike occur at this time the fear ful scenes of lsSo will more than likoly ba re-enacted and possibly the events of thai turbulent your will be eclipsed. Tile first intimation that- organized labor rocoived from the Gould system that all was not serene came on Juno 2a last, and since that time events have transolred whicl lead many to believe that the' Goulds intend to wage a systematic wurfare on all organizations, it being their purpose to deai with employes in all departments as individuals On the date mentioned a general order was issued by J. A. Edson, superintendent, of the Cotton Belt Line, abrogating the contract with the Order of Railway Telegraphers on July ?3. This order in itself affects about -J00 men. The reason given by Mr. Kdson for the can celiation of the agreement was that the orpanizations interfere with the dUcipliii. of the road.
