I'lUd-l'i) Slock. Attorney-General Ketchum says the building and loan associations of the State might as woll make up their minds to abide the decision of the Supremo Court, taxing stock that is held in investment. He has boon called on several times for advice since this decision of the court was announced, and ho has said to members of county boards of reviow that he would pursue but one policy in dealing with associations that rofuso to give information in regard to the holding of paid-up stock, and that would bo to put on the tax duplicate tho amount of tho association's authorized capital stock. This, he says, should be done, and tho associations should havo opportunity to gat the assessment oil the duplicate if they can.
The letters roceived at the otlice of 1 the btate Tax Board indicate that there is controversy in nearly every county over tho assessment of paid-up stock. In many instances secretaries of associations have refused to answer the questions, and the boards havo written to tho State Board for advice. It seems
