Noah J. Clodfelter filed for record to* day a 8o00,000 trust deed in the counties of Marion, Hancock aad Grant, says the Anderson Bulletin.
The deed is from the Indianapolis, Anderson & Marion R,y. Co., to the Farmers' Loan & Trust Co., of New York, and is for the purpose of securing the loan company for money advanced to build the electric road between Anderson and Marion.

The annual commencement proceedings of the schools of Clark township were held at Wesley Chapel, south-east of Ladoga on Saturday evening. The subject "Never Despair'," by Nannie Bryan, won first place, and "Ladder of Fame" by Josie PefTley, won second.
Similar proceedings by the schools of Walnut township were held at Adkins' Hall, in New Rose, on Saturday evening. The first place was won by Miss Fredie Ilart, subject "Woman's Achievements" and second place by Gilbert Shaw, subject "Tl.e importance of Trifles.'1 The schools of both townships are in good condition, and progress ia studies has been thorough aud satisfactory.

Tli.' late John Yankee, a pioneer resi--nt of Montpelier, bequeathed his es-t-ite, invoicing £25,000. to two of his children, disinheriting three. A suit contesting the will was called to-day in the Hhtckford Circuit Court.
William Brown, the seventy-year-old convict, who escaped from the prison north, attempted to defend himself with a «hor«un when recapture was imminent. For this reason the prison oflicials are opposing an effort now making to secure his pardon.
County Treasurer-elect C. F. Heritage, of Anderson, has qualitied by filing a bond calling for .?-J.r0,000, signed by fifty of the wealthiest citizens of the county, Mr. Heritago is the first Republican elected to that oflice in many years. He will be installed early in August.
The commissioners of Madison county during the past week made a settlement with County Treasurer Boland under the old law, paying him altogether 811,143. It is claimed that this is 80,000 in excess of his rightful fee had the commissioners waited for the ruling of the Supreme Court in the Vigo county case.
Col. Thomas Nichols, of Danville, is alarmingly ill and his great age, ninetytwo years, gives his condition additional complications. 'Squire Nichols, as he is familiarly known, was a soldier of the Black Hawk war, as well as participating in conflicts of more recent date. One of his sons is auditor of Hendricks county.
There is intense rivalry between Bloouiiygton and Bedford, both cities
having advertised special inducements for July 1. Recently an agent of the committee of arrangements for the Bloomington blowout went to Bedford to advertise its attractions, but he could not buy space in the Bedford papers neither could he find room for poster display.
Death of Will Hutching*.
Friday the diseased bone was operated upon by Dr. Marsee, of Indianapolis, assisted by Dr. Leech ana others. He failed to rally from the effects of the operation, and died next day. Young Hutchings was an excellent young man, esteemed by all acquaintances, and his death ju6t as he was entering the threshold of manbood with excellent prospects is much regretted. His funeral occurred on Tuesday, the interment being at OBk Hill.

A suit involving ?15,000 worth of property has come to a close in the Circuit Court of Boone county, lu J.892 William Freeland, of Jamestown, died leaving no widow or children, his brothers and sisters being hie only heirs. In lSSfi, his neice, Kate McQuoid, (now Mrs. Dr. Banta), began keeping house for bim. The will of William Freeland bequeathed all his property to this niece. A suit was brought to contest the will and resulted in the revocation of the will, on the grounds that it was procured through undue influence. The heirs then brought suit to partition the :eal estate, which consists of a valuable 180-acro farm, near Jamestown, and some residence property in Jamestown. Mrs. Banta, the bene ficiary under the will in this last suit claimed all the property under a contract with her uncle. The name and location of almost every business man in the county is given, tho land and lots owned by them, and c-ther matters of interest. There are over 3D0 pages in the directory, an increase of about 80 pages over the directory of four years atfo.

I John Peter, the clerk of the Commercial Hotel at Greencastle, who decamped with 6115 belonging to Nicholsons, the photographers of this city, was captured at Minneapolis and brought back to Oreencastle for trial.
