Insect pests are n.ore numerous this year than for many years. In many places the leaves from hickory and oak trees and even maples have been stripped by their ravages. The cut worms have destroyed whole fields of corn in many parts of the county, and farmers have had to plant a second time.
Sunday afternoon the horse of Mrs' (I. W. Ainmerman became frightened at tin steam roller which had been left standing on College street and Mrs. A mmerman being alraid of a runaway attempted to get out of the buggy. In so doing she fell and injured her knee The injury is quite serious.
Saturday evening at the bride's home, Clarence Xewell anil Miss Cora Quick were united io marriage by Rev. U. P. Fuson. The young couple are well known to a large circle of friends, and all unite in wishing them a prosperous and happy wedded life. The groom is an employe of the Water ,V Light Company. They will reside on Milligan street.
Over in Clinton county last Sunday at ''Chicken-Soup'" church--what a name for a church -there was a "big baptizing." as they as The Frankfort News called it. There were a large number of people present, the ?rowd being estimated at between l,r00 and '2,000. At tirst there were but thirteen baptized, but when it became noised about that that was an unlucky number, two more were induced to have the solemn ceremony performed upon them.
Mrs. .Jessie Davis, of Rockville, who had secured a divorce from her husband, while walking to church .Monday was waylaid by Davis, who shot her twice in the arms and once in the head. Davis th»n attempted suicide by taking mor phine. after which he shot himself, lie I will recover, but it is probable that Mrs.
Davis will die. Will Cheswright. a brother of the injured woman, upon hearing of the shooting, attempted to I kill Davis, but was prevented hy the city marshal
