'1 he suoj«ct of cement sidewalks gave rise to a nood dt-a! of discussion. The ordinance passed at the last meeting for walks on Green St.. was rescinded in view ..f tho fact that Charles Crawford intends erecting a now building to replace the present one on the north east, corner of Main and Greon streets within a year and that the ordering of the side walks would result in a loss, David Darter also had a kick coining against th- ordinance.

Now cement walks were ordered

DOESEY TO THE RESCUE.

Brave Rescue of a Woman From the

Flames at an Early Morning Fire. Shortly before nine o'clock Monday morning fire broke out in the old frame shell on west Main street owned by Mrs. Lee aud occupied by Richards repair shop. Doc Griffith, the driver of the department had the horses out exercising and it was some time after tho alarm was sounded before the firemen reached the scone. The lire had gained good headway and the work of extinguishing tho blaze was a difficult one. The entire second floor was burned and much of tho furniture was destroyed The fire gave rise to many amusing incidents as well as exciting.

Dorsey's gallant rescue of Miss Hattie l'lankenship from a horrible death in the flames is deserving of a medal Soon after the arrival of the department on the scene while the denEO volumes of smoke were rolling out from everv crack and crevice in the old building, Miss Blankonsbip's frightened face appeared over the edge of the balcony in front. The frantic calls of the bystanders for a ladder brought Dorsey to the rescue and mounting the ladder and clasping in his arms the thoroughly frightened girl brought her safely to mother earth from a height of fully 15 feet amid the cheers of the crowd. Tho fire was "nuts'' for tho small boy who couldn't hear tho bell for school and consequently got a half holiday.

The Ulalchcrnu Flat*. The above is the name of the new larg^e 7-story building just completed by Cien. Wallace on north Meridian street, Indianapolis. It is designed for the oc cupancy of families only, and there are rooms sufficient for the use of twentyfive families, most of which have already been engaged. Tho General himself superintending the renting of them.

Not the least advantage of the fiats on the upper floors is the view that one gets of the city. The whole city lies at one's feet, 60 to speak. On a clear day tho lulls, miles away, can be plainly seen. From the seventh tloor the Central Asylum for tho Insane looks as if it were distant but a ten minutes' walk.

The City Wins. Tho suit of the administrator of tho estate of Charley Allen against the city for $10,000 resulted in favor of tho city. The case wont to the jury Saturday afternoon and the verdict read in court Monday morning. Tho plea of tho defense was that there should have been protection against the possibility of accident. Tho attorneys for tho city proved that Allen WPS well acquainted with tho road, having driven over it many times and that at the time of tho accident he was intoxicated. Tho lawyers for tho defense were .lorre West AJudge Thomas.

The jury in the Carpenter $10,000 personal damage suit at Brazil againBt tho Vandalia railroad, which went to trial on Monday last, after boing out twenty-two hours returned, a verdict Saturday in favor of the plaintiff in the sum of $1,500.
