A VETERAN'S STORY.

Several years ago, while in Fort eUinff, Minn., I caught a severe ild, attended with a terrible congh, aliowed me no rest day or light. The doctors after exhausttheir remedies, pronounced my case hopeless, sayinp they could do no more for inc. At this time a bottle of

Neighbors about the ilali home \vpr" uware of the fa"t that a birth would take place theru last week ami wah.lied the event closely. On 'i'lics day afternoon the child was born and is reported as having bien heard to cry.

No doctor was present at ite birth. 'The babe was removed soon after its birth, in a pine box aud taken to the Crawfords woods by the supposed father, Chas, Wolliver, and his companion Bert MoQiiowau. where it as buried about three feet under ground aud the spot covered over with leaves. The matter of its disposal was not kept as quiet as might be desired for it was soon loca ed by the coroner and the suspects taken into custody, Wolliver being found at the home of his girl near Yountsville by otlicera (iriinos and Eon Bannister.

The quartette was released on Mon day noon by the coroner on their own recognition, but however their case looks dark and as the coroner expressed it, he has a serious case against them aud one that will causo some one a great amount of unbargained for trouble. It is claimed that the extreme secrecy manifested at Ihe birth was to keep the fact from the father. Win. Hall. The defence will proftably endeavor to prove that the infant died from natural causes. This affair has caused a sensation of alarndug proportions and the south end citizens are bound to have the aiatter fully investigated and the guilty parties brought to speedy justice.

able man of means, lost some money through the failure of a bank and afterward stubbornly refrained from putting his money in one of those institutions. It t9 his habit, for many }eare to secret his money about the house in one pi .toe or another. He died suddenly vithuit leaving any statement where his money was to be found, and his widow, knowing well that tie must have left more currency than she could find in the familiar places, made a thorough search of all the buildings on the farm, but found no trace of it. Finally she was induced to visit the old lady whom I mentioned. After the usual consumption of cofTee and distribution of her ancient pack of cards, she said he had money buried in the garden. It was buried at such and such a time, in just such a place, and my aunt returned home and found it in exactly the place indicated, amounting to about toOO.''

She may be alive yet. but we are in Cliued to doubt it.
