THE CHRISTIAN SCIENCE FAITH CURE. I It seems somewhat, remarkable this

age of intelligence and difuseii in!, rmation tliat then? are numbers of ople in many parte of the country, thai believ.j the curing of the sick, the i.-ne, the halt and the liliiKl. may be ae mplished by prayers aione. that meiiune or examination 1 treat: lent by men on scientific principics are useless, that appeals to tlie Almighty is all that is necessar to bring about a complete restoration of health. There are numbers of lif'licveir in such fiction and fanaticism. A ease of thin kind was brought to tight at I a\ton. Ohio. lust week. A little giri named Mt.ail became sick, and evidence was plain that if 'treated by a phvsician her ailment, could have been banished and health restored. Her parents, however, were believers in the Christian Science Cure, and absolutely refused to allow a physician to enter her sick chamber. The girl rapidly grew worse in spite of their prayers, and died. They or the -'doctors" of the faith cure have been indicted and car. now have a test of their praying qualities, while standing a trial for man slaughter. '1 he believers in such rot are descendentf-. uo doubt, of those who believed that Jonah was swallowed by a whale and after three days was vomited forth a live man. .Stories of miracle^, witches, ghosts. et:, are the foundation of their belief, no doubt, and is their preferred eho'.ce of all literature. The liberal and enlightened Christians of today do Lot take any stock in such non •ense. When they gel sick they send for a physician for treatment, and do not wait to test the etlieaey of prayer, 'lhey are in a better condition for giving thanks after they are restored to health. The belief of the Christian scientists summarized is that Cod is all powerful and omnipresent, and that they trust in appeals to him. with an understanding of his laws, as a result of study and faith in the laws. They said no medicineB were given the sick child. It received tender nursing air1, whatever nurishtnent was desired, and was a subject of constant prayer.

THE MOORE BILL.

fhe Moore bill which will become a law when tho acts are published and uistributed is jost now a highly interesting measure to many people in Indiana. Section thirteen is the one of particular interest just now. which confers upon city council" this power: "To license, regulate and restrain ail shops, inns, taverns «.r other places where intoxicating liquors aro kept for sale, to be used in and on the premises, and in regulating, restraining and licensing such inns, taverns, shops or places aforesaid, they r-hall have the power to desig nate the room. shop, building or structure where sueh'liquor may be sold, and mav exclude such sales from the suburban or residence portion of such city, anil may direct the arrangement and construction oi' the doors, windows and opening! of iho particular room in such building where such sales may be had

therein, and may forbid the keeping and use iif wine rooms."

In

the strife for State spoils thespoilsinen are particular to carry out all law precedents, in such cases made and provided, to the letter. The appointment of directors or the two State prisons is an instance in point. I he republicans have selected directors, all old time political schemers, anil the lovernor has also selected the same uumber. The republican directors must go and deI'"and possession of iho prisom. those at present in charge must refuse to give tliein up. I he refused parties must take the case to the Circuit Court of West eouiitii-s iu which the prisons are located. From that court whichever! party is defeated must tu,e it to the!

Supreme Court for 'final decision. All! this of course is according to lloyle or I Uiackstone, it is immaterial ••vhich. Xow if all these .spoilsmen and iiloo.j .l

THE MONEY QUESTION. All indications point to the certainty that the leading issuo in the campaign of 1890 will be the money ijnestion. and all parties will in their platforms make it the leading subject. The panic of two years ago, and the dull times and general prostration of business resulted from an unsettled and satisfactory condition of finances, it is apparent to persons of intelligence that lor years the legislation in this country has been made favorable to capital at the ex pense of other portions of the people, and that wealth is every year obtaining a firmer grip upon the srovernment and the people. The \ve6t and south are favorablo to bimetallism, the equality of gold and silver, uoither to have by legis latiou any advantage over the other in the commercial transactions of the country.

It is too plain to need demonstration that the demoniti/.ation of silver was solely in the interest of capital. It was the work of a republican Congress and administration todying to capital. It was engineered in the interest of Wall street and Wall street profited largely by it. It is tne same 10-day. The legislation is for Wall street and the mon eyed people of the east against the masses all over the country. If silver was the ecjuaf of gold at any turn* in the hiitory of this country prior to the war why cannot it be to-day? Is there any reason that silver should be made to depreciate in value? None whatever. If it was worth llO cents to the dollar thirty years ago why is it not to dayV Firm and decided grounds must be taken on the question next year when it will be argued frcui all points. The democracy mu6t take advanced and reasonable grounds, on the money question. There must bo uo truckling nor evasion of tho question. Thero can be uo middle ground. It resolves itself simply into the question, shall the pi"oducers. the makers of wealth, bow their heads to the growing money po^er of the country': it has been just about that way for the past few years. Tho lessons of history of many nations teach us of the danger of encroaching wealth and capital. We should heed them, and by voice, vote and actions favor those who create the wealth of the country, and not those who speculate upon it

ENFORCING THE LAW.

The Nicholson temperance law. like auv other similar enactment, will fail in its intended effect if not enforced. City and county otlicials desiring "a pull" with the liquor influence for future political reward, will often shirk their plain duty under the law and often wink at its violation. This has always been the case when it came to enforcing any strict provisions of temperance laws and we have no reason to doubt that it will be again. If you can rid one-half of the voters of this country of the taste for office, or hope of future political standing, tlien can you reasonably hope to have rigid temperance laws enforced, otherwise not. In a year or two from this time we believe tho Nicholson law vill inspire no more terror among retailers nf ardent spirits than the present law. A new broom sweeps clean for a time and makes dirt fly. but after a time it becomes ubby. the wires woik loose and m'.ich uirt is left behind. S with the new temperance law, which for a time may create consternation, but after a tune officials become slack in their duties, and Violations become common place. No use for a law that is not :i forced.

by their parents is seen in the case oi Frank Yeagley, who, last week, waa sentenced to a year in the penitentiary for purloining a sleigh. Yeagley had the best of parents, a kind father anil an atfectionate mother, lie would not go to school nor learn a trade, which he should have been forced to do. His every wish was gratified with money, but this did uo good. 1 le was idle bocause he had. not bt«en compelled to labor. An idle brain is ltie devil's workshop, and it proved true in eagiey's case. He was constantly gettiuu his father in trouble through his unlawful schemings. lie has come to a halt i.ow. in the solitude of his cell at the peson he will have time to reflect on his past wicked and disgraceful course, and it may eventually be the means of producing in him abetter man.

I'uviniKM Ci.KVKi.AMt last week appointed a man named Herod, a republican. to a lucrative position in Japan. Cleveland in al. his extensive acquaintance and knowledge of public tueu probably thought there was no democrat competent to fill the piaee. There will be few agree with him, anil if the democracy ever again elect a President it is to be hoped tnat he will not be so ungrateful as to chooso persons for positions of trust ind emolument who oppose him polit'cally. We wonld I insist on a guarantee next time that democratic Presidents appoint only democrats to ollice.
