I A tier Watternon. Henry Watterson, of the Louisville Courier Journal, was posted and had

been employed to deliver a lecture ut Wingate last February. For some

reaso:i he failed to appear. He lectured at Attica last Saturday evening, and at that place was interviewed by "Col. John Wingate," in behalf of the people of that village over his failure to appear. Watterson failed to arrive and not only disappointed the people, but caused a loss to tho lodge of $200, it having sold tickets ami received pay for same to that amount, in excess of what thoy wore to pay him. Tho Southern Lyceum bureau, with whom thoy had contracted for tho lecture, said that ho was snowbound in Pennsylvania and refused to make any settlement, claiming that they wore Minply Watterson's agents. In the meantime Col. Wingate, who resides in

Wingate, the place being named for him, and an active member of tho li.dge, be gan investigations and found that Wat tcrsjon was not snow-bound, but was somewhere else.

Col. Wingate was at Attica Saturday, met Watterson and a controversy took place between them tha' was not alto gether amiable.. Watterson, after being informed of ttio facts as

The house was beautifully and profusely decorated with the colors of tho emerald isle, and Miss Divine received her guests uttired in a gown of the greenest kind of green. A bountiful repast was served and for favors the gentlemen were presented with cob pipes tied with bows of green while the ladies received emerald 6et stick pins similarly ornamented. Mirth was at its heighth during the entire evening, and all retired with the conviction that it was the leading entertainment of the vear.

Twelve years ago William Wallace was a resident of Portland, Oregon, and being alllicted with lung disease was advised to go to Durango, Coo then a wild western town. M., a cow hoy town sixti miles south of Durango.
