New York. Feb. 31.—At midnight last night the tale was still tl.e same—no news of I.a CJa&scojrne. 'During the day there was a momentary belief the story from Halifax mijuiit be true that a "report was circulated that some thing had been heard of i, Cascogno in the vicinity of Sable island." The Cunarder Vmbria. Capt. Dutton, which sailed from Liverpool Fob. via Queenstown ihe ::d, reached quarantine I at 11:12 yesterday morning. It brings no word of La Oascogne. During the only spell of good weather on the vessel's voyage it was enabled To rescue fourteen persons who were adrift in a waterlogged, helpless bark.
Halifax, X. S.. Feb. 11.—A good deal of speculation has been indulged in here over a report that the steamer La Oascogne was ashore on Sable Island. Xo one can tell how, when, or where ihe rumor started. It certainly is not otficial. The only communication with Sable Island this time of the year is by carrier pigeon and none have arrived at the lofts here. The superintendent says none would be let go in such weather as has prevailed last week.
