THESE DEMOCRATIC TIMES.
HowThe New Tariff Law is Beennninsr to Work.
The new tariff law is neither killing people nor industries over in the gas belt. An Anderson special of tho bltli says: "fn consideration of a cafh bonus and free land aud fuel, the Wright Shovel Co. of this city last night signed a contract to erect and put in operation another plant, an exact duplicate of tho one now in operation and employing 200 men. The new plant is to be located in North Anderson and is to be complete in it6iJlf.
Today the citizens will secure beyond any doubt, the location of a mammmith twelve-mill tin-plate mill, It will also bo located in North Anderson,
The Jjuckeyo manufacturing company's buildings F.valyn addition wore completed last evening and will be occupied during tho next week. The plant will be iu operation by the first of the month, employing :?G0 hands.
The Flint Bottle Works iu llnzelwood is to bo enlarged this week from a *ven to an eight-pot concern. The force will be increased in proportion. This is one week's record for a gas bell city under tho now tariff law."-.
1 he new tarill' does not seem to have killed the manufacturers of tin plate in this country, but on the contrary seems to have the effect of stimulating the investment of capital in this industry.
Yesterday afternoon there was 1ile 1 in the ollice of the secretary of state ar tides of incorporation of the Atlanta steel and tin-plato company with a captal stock of ?130,000. Back of the new plant are the sons of tho wealthiest men of the state. The new company is for the purpose of manufacturing and soiling tinned plate. Its headquarters will be at Atlanta, Hamilton county, whore large buildings and an extensive plant will be erected at once and the company will go into the manufacture of tinplate extensively notwithstanding tho new tariff. It is expected that the bus iness of the new concern will spread to various parts of tho country and although the main offices will be maintained at Atlanta provision is made in tho corporate articles for the erection of branch offices and factories in other states.—Sentinel
