The annual meeting of tho Farmers' Mutual insuranco company composed of the countios of Montgomery and Vigo was hold at the small court room ou Tuesday. The report of tho president showed that there had been but Jone assessment during tho past year, that of 5400 on the barn of Elijah Clore. There are 153 members in the company with'a capital Btock of $163,000.

Quarantine olllcers msre driven from the houses which they were guarding and no attempts have been made to ohock the infuriated mobs. These women seem to be organized and are determined to resist all efforts of the health department to remove patients or quarantine affected houses. Tho women are all armed with baseball bats and wear white caps. About 400 paraded through Fifteenth, Sixteenth and Seventeenth avenues and drove the quarantine oflicers from their posts. At 2 o'clock in the afternoon the health department temporarily abandoned the attempt to quarantine and romove patients to the isolation hospital or to investigate new cases in the Eleventh ward. Even the patients from other sections of the city were not removed because it was feared the ambulence would bo wrecked when it passed through the ward on its way to the isolation hospital.

Judge Wallber let off the rioters who were arrested Aug. without punishment and discharged Fred Rosenberg, the man vlio was arrested for urging the women to attack the police. The police were discouraged at the discharge of Vie prisoner ^and have lost heart in the work of trying to proserve order. The health department is being sharply criticised by the people for the weak and vacillating policy which has marked its handling of the smallpox epidemic. Prom ises were made that the disease would be confined and would not become epidemic but now, according to the admission of Dr. Kempster, it isi|petting beyond control and many are tho demands which have been made that he should either resign or be removed from office. Elevator Company Sues for 8H3-000-MINNEAPOLIS, Minn., Aug. 3a—The State Elevator company is suing the city of Minneapolis for 835,000 damages. It is alleged its elevator has been made Insecure by the removal of dirt by the Great Northern road. The city is sued on the ground that the railway company was granted permission to perform the work.

Notorious llorsethlef Caught. OaiiKosu, Wis., Aug. 30.—B. F. Land is was arrested here for horse stealing ten years ago in Ohio. He has served two terms for a similar offense and eight years ago sawed his way out of the jail at Greenville, Ohio He was taken back to Greenville.
