The municipal council has appointed a rendezvous for the volunteers in the event of an emergency arising that will require their services, but no anxiety is felt as to the safety of Europeans. The Japanese association, which includes among its members the leading Japanese of Shanghai and vicinity, has issued a waning to the Japanese residents that they must behave themselves and avoid any act that would tend to precipitate a conflict with the Chinese. turning from St. Clairsville about midnight, a picnic wagon in which were twenty-five persons drove onto Whisky llun bridge, traversing the tracks of the Wheeling & Bellaire electric railway. A car in charge of Motorman McConnaghy was being run

it came upon the wagon at full speed, hurling it ofV the bridge with all its occupants and the four horses. There was a sheer fall of twenty feet Two of the four horses were killed, the other crippled, eight of the passengers were seriously injured and the others more or less hurt. Emmett Pickett, the driver ot the wagon, is not expected to live. Both the car and the wagon were completely wrecked.

Major Worth's Court Martial. OMAHA,
of Fort Omaha, is to be brought to trial Aug. 13 on the charge of disobeying the Lincoln order in ordering Private Cedarquist to shoot at a target on Sunday. The court martial order has been issued, and the major ia "in arrest" in military parlance.

Fire Disturbs a HuHeball Came. CHICAGO, Aug. »«. Fire broke out in the grand stand at the West Side baseball park yesterday afternoon during the progress of the game between the Chicago and Cincinnati clubs. A Sunday crowd of '.i,0i0 people were in attendance. The llames leaped out in an incredibly short time, and a wild panic ensued, except among those occupying seats in the sections farthest from the scene of tho fire. It is estimated that at least 200 .were more or less injured, although none fatally.

Deputy Sheriff Sam Holmes attempted to arrest Amos Lash of Cisco, Pratt county, OJI a charge of selling liquor without license. Lash, who was armed with two revolvers, broke away and as he fled through an alloy opened tire on Holmes, who returned it. The fusillade was kept up for two blocks, when Holmes ran out of ammunition. Lash was finally shot in the arm and leg and captured.
