Where Disease Is Bred.

When a sewer is clogged cr choked up the accumulation-, poison the atmosphere in its vicinity and bring about the conditions that breed disease. We all kuc.v that in time of pestilence every precaution is taken, not only to keep the sewers free and open, but even to remove all decaying matter from the community. The danger of infection is thus minimized. How few of us who pay taxes for the maintenance of s.mitasy bureaus for the public health ti.ink of an equal requirement for our individual welfare. The alimentary canal is the great sewer of the human system. When that is dammed up conditions are gencrated which invite fevers and such diseases as our nature inclines to. Constipation is a clogging of the natural drains, and nearly everything we suffer from follows this condition. It will not do merely to clear the drains from time to time. We must repair and improve the working power of the machinery whose function it is to perform this work. Smith's Bile Beans differ from pills in that they are more than mere cathartic They not only stimulate sluggish bowels and clear the system of all disease-breeding matter, but they remedy the evil complained of they restore power and freedom of operation to the secreting organs, and they tone up and strengthen the entire system. They are easy and soothing in action. Try them.

THH republicans opposed to Charles Landis for Congress in the 10th district, have called another convention to nominate a new man. Landis, how-.-ver, proposes to remain in the field as a candidate, and the fight gives promise of being decidedly interesting by the time the election is held. Tho paying "when rogues fall out, honest men receive their dues," will likely be illustrated in tho b^th district, as a democrat can be electeo, judged froth the li^ht among tho opposition, without much trouble.

THE trial of the two Coffins, 'he bank embezzlers, will not come off for hearing before the U. S supreme court ^or two years. Nd sooner is the coal strike ended than a new one is inaugurated by several thousand employees of the Pullman car company located in a half dozen cities of the United states. This last strike like the coal striue will result just as all of them do in a defeat. Very few strikes seem successful, and the strikers in a pecuniary sense are much worso off at its close.

While boring for water on the farm of Simeon Vancleave at New Market during tho latter pari of last week the workmen were surprised by the issuing from a two-inch pipe of what at lirst seemod to ttiem steam. A match was placed to it an 1 a big blaze from natural gas followed. The drill had only extended down to the depth of 1'50 feet thtough a large vein of water. The gas burned in a steady stream for abrat sixhours. w. en it was extinguished. Saturday it was relighted when the flow sjcmed stronger than before, rising to the height of six feet. Uas wells of no greater depth than this are generally of short duration, and this may simply be marsh, or what has been termed "pocket"' gas, and d'es not come from the Trenton rock. However it is worthy of oxtended investigation and the continuation of drilling may result in sjmething permanent and valuable.

A Horrible An-rU-ni. Last Saturday Harry Clayton met with a most sickening accident while working oil abridge on the Range road west of Ilillsbor,) Tho mud sills sup porting the foundation had been re moved and he was down in the trench making them deeper. Suddenly a section of the bank about four feet square fell iu upon him. It seams that he had just made a stroke with a pick when the dirt caved in and forced him down on the point of the tool, which entered his head noar the oyo and plowed through his face, taking out several of his teeth and mangling his jaws in a frightful manner. Mr. Glascock, who was working with Clayton, removed tho dirt and oxtricated tho poor man from his awful position as soon as possible, to find him more dead than alive. The weight on tho pick had driven it into the oarth so far that it wat drawn out only with great difficulty. The wound made by the pick was sickening to be hold.

Mtllion~DoUi&v Illttxe at Uroolclyn, N. Y, —Crushed by a Wall. BROOKLYN, N. Y., Jun"e 30.—Shortly after 4 o'clock yesterday afternoon fire broke out in Woodruff's stores oif Furman street. About S o'clock iu the evening, when the firemen were iu hopes that the fire was under oontroL, the flames sorted again with greater force, and it at once became evident that bufldings "K" and "II" were doomed. It was about 9:j5p. m. that the south wall of warehouse "K" was seen to bulge out and a moment later fell with a terrific crash. Employes of the Union Ferry ccfmpany were on the trestlework, which runs through the yarji. They were playing hose on the company's property when the wall fell, bu'rying thre6 of them beneath it, while the fourth jumped a^d escaped. A rescuing party was formed, which in a short time succeeded in bringing the bodies out of the debris. Two of them hud been Billed outright, while the third man received injuries which will probably result in his death.

About midnight the flames were thought to be under control. The burned buildings were valued ut 000, while the value of their contents was 81,000,000, making a total loss of ?i,075,000, said to be fullv covered by insurance.

Nothing Strange.

Intelligent people, who realize the important part the blood holds in keeping the body in it normal condition, find nothing strange in the number of diseases that Hood's Sarsaparilla is able to cure. So many troubles result from impure blood that the best way to treat them is through the blood, and it is far better to use only harmless egetable compounds than to dose to excess with quinine, calomel and other drugs. By treating the blood with Hood's Sarsaparilla, scrofula, salt 'heum and what are commonly called 'humors.' dyspepsia, catarrh, rheumatism, neuralgia, consumption and other troubles that originate in impurities of the blood or impaired circulation, can all be cured.
